Restaurants in German wine regions

I’m planning a trip to Germany in mid to late June. I’ll probably try to cover most wine making regions in Germany, and would love to get recommendation on restaurants with a good wine list.

There are some threads and info about Mosel and Baden, but other regions aren’t much discussed so I’m particularly curious about restaurants/bars in Pfalz, Ahr, Rhengau, Rheinhessen, Nahe, Franken and Wurttemberg.

By “good wine lists”, I’m looking for reasonably priced wine from Europe, as well as old back vintages from Germany. For European wine, I’m thinking Champagne and Burgundy, because that’s where I typically find good values at European restaurants but I am open to other regions.

Appreciate any advice/suggestion. Thanks!

I would highly recommend you dine at schanz restaurant in Piesport. You can’t get more in the middle of the Mosel Valley than that. I can’t speak to the reasonableness of the wines they offer, but what they offered was a perfect match for the food.

A few years ago I stayed at Breuer’s Rüdesheimer Schloss (Wine Hotel: Breuers Rüdesheimer Schloß) and ate at their restaurant (Wine Restaurant: Breuers Rüdesheimer Schloß) which some old wines (https://www.ruedesheimer-schloss.com/fileadmin/Mediapool/Dokumente/Raritätenkarte_26._Juni_2025.pdf). I can’t remember what I drank but I highly recommend.

At least for: Pfalz, Rhengau, Rheinhessen, Nahe I listed a bunch in my travel thread. That was of last spring, so still current.

Wow they have quite old bottles on the list. I don’t recognize most producers of old wine on the list, but it must be fun! Thank you!

Yup I’ve read your German travelogue a few times. But iirc, most restaurants with a good list you visited are in Mosel? It’s a long writing so I may have missed a few though!

Think there are a few. Certainly Steins Traube - Mainz comes to mind.
