Continuing the discussion from Long Beach California Restaurant recommendations sought:
My daughter will be attending CSU Long Beach in the fall, and we’re headed down for a campus tour in the near future. I’m looking for a few restaurants we can check out as a family - mostly, quality casual places of the type she might be able to go to now and then as a college student, but with maybe with one somewhat nicer dinner mixed in. We’re staying close to campus and would like to stay in that very general area, but otherwise I’m open to recommendations…please share! Thanks!
Not sure of your preferences or price range. Here are several places of varying types that I enjoy in the greater area:
Ellie’s
Nonna Mercato
Ubuntu
Coffee Parlor
Marlena
Bar Becky
Chiang Rai
Selva
The Attic
Nicks on 2nd
Olive and Rose
Heritage
Long Beach Exchange Hangar. Food hall has a large variety of food vendor stalls and beer. Indoor and outdoor seating (also multiple adjacent sit down restaurants in the surrounding shopping center).

Thunderbolt Pizza was seriously good after a day at the dog beach.

Thanks for the recommendations, Justin and Glen! I’ll take a look.
Pricewise, I’m mostly looking for low-to-mid-range places - restaurants we could get out of with a tasty meal for up to $20-30 per person at lunchtime and that or a bit more at dinner. We’ll probably do a somewhat nicer dinner one night, but I’m not looking for Michelin stars on this trip.
My daughters aren’t highly adventurous eaters, but they like a range of food. I could see us considering a Mexican/Spanish place, a Thai place, a sushi place, a grill/burger/BBQ place, an Italian place, a pizza place, etc.
Pizza: Pizza Parlor, Speak Cheesy, Little Coyote
Sushi: Sushi Kara, Awesome Sushi, I Luv Sushi

Just to follow up, we had our brief trip over the weekend, and we got to a couple of places mentioned here as well as a couple mentioned by some other folks I asked. A few quick notes:
Sushi Kinoya: We’re not sushi connoisseurs, but we were all happy with the rolls we got here, and the service was friendly. My wife particularly enjoyed their nightly special albacore roll, which was relatively delicate but had really nice flavor.
Chiang Rai: Really good Thai food here - between us, we got orders of khao soi, wagyu thai boat noodle soup, pad see ew, and pad thai, and we were all very happy. A shared side of chicken satay was very tasty too. My favorite meal of the trip, and worth the 45-minute wait for a late lunch.
Nick’s on Second: We had a nice time at dinner here, and I’d say the food was good but not really remarkable. Maybe my expectations were too high because this was one of the places which had been most universally recommended to me. The winner, for me, was my wife’s salmon, which was cooked to perfection.
Supermex: A local chain one of my coworkers likes for their straightforward Mexican food and their salsa. We enjoyed everything we got here - this was a good, relatively quick stop on the way out of town.

Excellent list and I would add Ammatoli for fantastic Middle Eastern food. Also, when you return, Chiang Rai does take reservations for dinner. In addition, not sure what else you are looking for, but 555 East is an excellent “old school” steakhouse and has NO corkage charge.
Cheers!

Ammatoli was recommended to us by someone while we were visiting. We didn’t get there this time, though.
OT, but I like the Tom Gauld avatar.
