Our family will be up in Pacifica for one night soon, and I was wondering what restaurants in the area might be good for a dinner stop. I’d say we’re medium-adventurous at most but not really looking for anything exotic or high-end this time around - just tasty food, ambience welcome but optional. All suggestions appreciated…thanks!
Passionfish
Are you open to driving at all, or does it need to be in Pacifica proper? Unfortunately the only thing I know about Pacificas food scene is the legendary Taco Bell on the beach, but it’s quite close to South SF or the Westlake/Merced areas which opens up a lot more possibilities.
(Passionfish is quite a hike, I think you might be thinking of a different Pacifica)
I saw there is a guy supposedly making decent or good bread there now. Can’t remember the name and, since I am staying in SF, not going to drive down there specifically for bread, but looks pretty good if staying there.
Pacifica, not Pacific Grove
I’d drive to SF…
One option would be to head south, toward Half Moon Bay. There are a number of restaurants in that direction that fit your description, not fancy or extravagant, but good food:
La Costanera
Moss Beach Distillary (more of a casual pub)
Mezza Luna
Sam’s Chowder House
Barbara’s Fishtrap (very casual)
Fattoria E Mare
Pasta Moon
Depending on the day (weekend vs. weekday) getting out of Pacifica into San Francisco can be a traumatic experience lol.
We are great fans of Passionfish, but it is indeed farther from Pacifica than we’d want to be.
Thanks for the tip and for the list, @Alan_Rath! I wouldn’t mind going into SF except for this…it’ll be a Saturday evening, and after the drive up, I think we’ll be happy to limit our additional car time and just eat relatively close to the hotel.
Dim Sum King in Daly City is close and has pretty good food, especially if you’re a group. King crab FTW!
I’d also recommend Westfield Original Joes, old school but classic and good atmosphere. Reservations are tough but you should be fine as walk-ins.
I just realized that I never checked back in on this. Again, I appreciate all the recommendations.
We drove up on Saturday the 11th ahead of an archery competition, checked into our hotel, and the family consensus for dinner was…something relatively light, and my daughter really wanted sushi/Japanese. We ended up going to Kani-Kosen, a small family-run place.
Online reviews are a bit scattered (some of them focusing on slow or inattentive service), but we had a very enjoyable time there and a good meal - two of us had assorted sushi plates, and my wife had yakitori with mixed tempura veggies.
It’s pretty close to the Taco Bell, so we walked there afterwards just to be able to say we had been there.
