Restaurant Porn: Custom Sashimi Tasting Menu at Splendido

Foodies,

Fellow board member Jay Shampur and I partook of a custom sashimi tasting menu at Splendido restaurant in Toronto last night. I initially was going to pass thinking this would be an overpriced version of all you can eat sashimi where no skill other than requiring admittedly top-quality fish would be required. Boy, was I ever wrong and am so glad I partook of this.

You see, rather than just cut fish and seafood and serve it with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce, every single dish was dressed individual by chef Victor Barry and his team to compliment each sashimi. Some were smoky, some were spicy, some were tangy. There were even a couple of cooked dishes that were unbelievable.

I would like to point out one particular standout dish – a smoked salmon tea. You read that correctly. A green tea brewed to perfection with smoked salmon bones. That was unreal.

And the last batch of photos. Splendido is well-known for its tasting menus only approach and feature two such menus at their restaurant. As such, it was a privilege to partake of this customized option. Their tasting menus aren’t exactly slouches either – I’ve had both the standard and the high-end 14 item menu and both were ridiculously spectacular.
