I am really wondering about the path those bottles took to get to your cellar. Even if one accepts some variation, Trimbach is just not nearly that inconsistent. Your Schlossberg sounds like it might have met some heat.
Could be. Most of these Trimbach rieslings have came from benchmark or other quality retailers like Morrell. I know Benchmark buys up other peopleās collections, so who knows where this bottle has been.
Aside from a few bottles of pre-moxed '96 and '98 Hune, Iāve had mainly good luck over the years. A bottle of '97 Hune recently showed some signs of age and was slightly more advanced than expected, perhaps vintage-related, but it still had good energy. I have a few btls of older Hune (70s, 80s) leftā¦ the last bottle of '73 I opened (ex-domaine, opened 3 or so years ago) was still trucking along. Have a '99 CFE on deck that Iāve stored since release and plan on opening sometime soon.
Iād be curious to hear how that 99 goes. Recent experiences with 01 and 01 375 anniversary werenāt great for me.

I donāt have the experience of others here, but I havenāt had any issues with the bottles I purchased or tasted (lone exception was the bottle of '07 CFE that Craig opened). Every bottle of '01 and '02 CFE has been great. Same with '96 SdR, '97 CFE and '00 PG Hommage a Jeanne. Not all were purchased from retail wine shops. I bought my bottles of '01 CFE at Trader Joeās!
I purchased a couple of bottles each of '12 Geisberg and '14 Schlossberg at the domaine in 2018. I have no intention of opening those any time soon.

OK I am in NZ so maybe they had issues shipping to us.
The Trimbach wines I have bought are all cellar releases direct from Trimbach via a NZ importer/retailer. Great provenance and been in my cellar since purchase.
My failure rate of CFE is 30% to 50%

Thatās how it tasted when I visited Trimbach. Itās why I was shocked at how Craigās bottle was.
I really think that some (not allā¦see 1998) of Trimbachās issues are supply chain related.
