Who is Red Newt? We’re a passionate and small team that has been joyfully producing single vineyard Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot from the Seneca Lake AVA since 1998. With minimal intervention in the cellar, these wines are true expressions of the vineyard and the vintage. Our wines are age-worthy and continue to evolve in bottle for many years. Classic, elegant, world class wines await you.
Why the Finger Lakes? Cool, long growing seasons that are moderated by epic bodies of water allow us to make wines that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the US.
What are we offering? We’ve put together some six awesome packages below, with equally awesome pricing. But it is cold up here during the winter, so we’re going to wait to ship until early March to make sure everyone’s wine can transit safely.

Starting off with a bang, we put together a package featuring the THREE WINEMAKERS of Red Newt Cellars - David Whiting, Kelby James Russell, and our newest winemaker, Christina Zapel. Reaching back to archives with both a 2010 and 2011 vintage produced by Dave, some 2017s produced by Kelby, and featuring the inaugural 2023 vintage created by Christina.

Glacier Ridge Vineyard- The greatest red vineyard site in the Finger Lakes, a steep slope that dives into Seneca Lake on its Southeast side. Sitting in the “Banana Belt” of Seneca Lake, the reds from Glacier Ridge Vineyard have a power and structure that is unique to the Finger Lakes.
Lahoma Vineyards - At a higher elevation than most vinifera vineyards, with silty loam soil, this vineyard creates opulent and fruit-dense expressions of Riesling. Red Newt helped develop and plant this vineyard starting in 2007 in collaboration with the prior owner.
2010 Merlot Glacier Ridge - Endangered Newt Library Release Only 15 bottles remain. Warm leather and tobacco with plum, cherry, and dusty tannins.
2011 Lahoma Vineyard Riesling - Endangered Newt Library Release In 2011, an extended cold and rainy interval delayed harvest close to a week, during which time the entire vineyard developed full-on, “noble rot”. This wine was made with ample sweetness and crisp acidity, layered with a remarkably elegant layer of botrytis. 4.9% RS
2017 Riesling The Knoll Lahoma Vineyards - The goal with “the Knoll” Riesling is to make a dry Riesling as powerful and textural as the very best that come from Germany, Austria, and Alsace. 0.3% RS
2017 Merlot Glacier Ridge - 20% whole cluster with extended maceration on skin, followed by aging in neutral American oak barriques. A cooler growing season, with a sunny harvest season, giving both ripeness and freshness to the grapes.
2023 Riesling Glacier Ridge - pre-release Overnight skin contact and native yeast fermentation in neutral french oak barrique for 9 months. Juicy acid, mineral-driven, hint of flint, white peach and blossoms. 0.6% RS
2023 Merlot Glacier Ridge - pre-release 10% Whole Cluster. Complex and full-bodied with juicy acidity. Firm structure with black raspberry, savory herbs, and full tannins. It’s rare to see a Merlot in the Finger Lakes with this much power and structure, a credit to the Glacier Ridge Vineyard. Daaaannnng this is good.

2023 Cabernet Franc - New release, along with the 2023 Merlot. Both sourced from the same vineyard on the east side of Seneca Lake, this wine is full-bodied, with bright cherry and acid throughout. A great example of why Cabernet Franc is king of the reds in the Finger Lakes.
2023 Merlot - Pure and refreshing expression of well grown Merlot in the Finger Lakes. Medium-bodied with dark currants and soft tannins.

Tango Oaks Vineyard is a marvel. Five acres on the southeast slope of Seneca Lake, it was the washout point for an epic flood in 1935 that dropped 18" of rain in 24 hours… and 20 FEET of pure gravel. This package offers a cross-section of different stylistic expressions from the same grape, each beautiful and unique (and three from the same vintage!).

2017 Riesling Noble Late Harvest- 500mL - Clean, botrytis-free late harvest fruit. Fresh aromas with extremely well -balanced sweetness. 11.9% RS
2017 Riesling Late Harvest “Noble Dry” - 500 ml - All the aromas and weight of a dessert wine, but rich and dry on the palate. Clean, late-harvest clusters, fermented for 18 months in neutral French puncheon. RS 0.2%
2017 Riesling Ice Wine - 375 ml - 48.9% sugar at harvest, finishing sugar 36.4% 96 James Suckling
2015 Sparkling Riesling - Aged en tirage for 8 years, Disgorged March 2024. Dosage 15g/L
2016 Riesling - Our classic, dry Riesling expression of this vineyard that is a benchmark for the Finger Lakes, filled with white peach, thai basil, and bright acidity. RS 0.6% 93 James Suckling
2018 Riesling Lees Reserve - Dry Riesling aged extra long on lees for amplified weight and spiciness. RS: 0.2%

2013 Sawmill Creek North Block - Juicy, with lime curd and pithy finish. Firm acidity balances the honeyed sweetness. An ode to German Spätlese. 4.9% RS
2014 The Big H - A Semi-dry style blended from multiple sites at Lahoma Vineyards that is all about balance and freshness. 1.9% RS 93 James Suckling
2015 The Knoll Riesling - A single-site sourced from Lahoma vineyard on the west side of Seneca Lake, Red Newt sourced and helped develop Lahoma starting in 2007. Extremely concentrated tropical notes, passion fruit, and lemon balm carry through, with a precise acid-driven finish. 0.4% RS 95 Points James Suckling
2016 Lahoma Riesling - Overwhelmingly orange-fruit driven with a joyful expression of tangerine and apricot. Lower in alcohol, higher in RS, this is modeled off a German Kabinett. 7.9% RS
2017 Dry Riesling Glacier Ridge Skin Ferment - Fermented on destemmed skins for three (3!) weeks until dry, then pressed into a neutral oak barrel. The first release from this block ever.
2018 Tango Oaks Riesling Lees Reserve - Classic Fingers Lakes Dry Riesling given extra time of the lees. Coming from Alsatian clones of Riesling, this expression is more savory and mineral-driven than the Lahoma Vineyard wines in this package.

2020 was an exceptional vintage in the Finger Lakes. Warm and even temperatures throughout, with less than average rainfall, resulted in small berries and increased yields across the board. The mild winter preceding the growing season provided the vines with all the necessary “ingredients” to produce a larger crop without sacrificing quality. Fruit achieved a rare level of ripeness while cool nights maintained the hallmark freshness of the Finger Lakes.Includes one bottle each:
2020 Viridescens - Made in only the finest years, we select the best barrels for our reserve wine. 55% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Franc, The Merlot and Cabernet Franc are exclusively Glacier Ridge Vineyards fruit, and highlight the delightful earthy and smoky characteristic of the site. 93 James Suckling
2020 Cabernet Franc Glacier Ridge Vineyard - Structural complexity and length on the pallet, raspberry and violet notes on the nose, all tied together by the smokiness that is typical of the Glacier Ridge Vineyard.
2020 Gruner Veltliner - Crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a hot summer day.White pepper, flint, and crisp fruit run from the nose right through to the palate and finish.
2020 Merlot Glacier Ridge - 100% stem inclusion results in a well-structured Merlot with notes of cherries and thyme. 95 James Suckling
2020 Riesling Glacier Ridge Vineyard- The Riesling from Glacier Ridge vineyards is our rendition of traditional wine making. Fruit is hand-picked, pressed whole-cluster, and fermented in oak, all using gravity. RS: 0.1% 94 James Suckling
2020 Pinot Gris - Rose gold in color, this Pinot Gris resembles a Rose, while the palate is full of golden delicious apples with a savory midpalate. This wine has the weight to pair with more robust meals.
