Going to be down in the bay area this Saturday wanted to make a stop in (I’ve never been to either) at K&L. It wouldn’t be too much out of the way to stop by either or but just curious from others who have been which has the better CA wine and Burgundy selection? Pictures on the web so far haven’t swayed me one way or the other, but still need to read some reviews on Yelp see if there is anything of use. Thanks!
Their offerings are similar in depth and breadth - San Francisco is a new larger location and might have slightly more choices. Their Saturday tasting is Spanish wine this week, which wasn’t one of your categories but still shouldn’t be missed - either Noon to 3pm in San Francisco or 1pm-4pm in Redwood City. Just go to whichever shop is more convenient. K&L is a spectacularly good retailer.
The two stores are not close, go to whichever is more convenient from where you’ll be. I haven’t been to the new SF store, have heard it’s quite a bit larger, so maybe they have more stock on the shelves.
I feel like redwood has more stock of older btls when I went.
I felt the same - but we’re both wrong. Their website has a great search function, and the stores are roughly equivalent for most “Old & Rare” categories.
Thanks for the recommendations everyone, sounds like San Francisco is the place to go since we’ll be a little bit closer and making our way back to Sonoma County that day, plus I’d like stop by Cellarmaker for some beers after shopping!
About 4 blocks south of the Redwood City K&L is Beltramo’s. They also have a nice wine selection and a spectacular spirits section if you are looking for something hard to get.
If you have a certain region you are looking for, you can check online at K&L (and Beltramo’s for that matter) and check the stock of each of the wines. They give a detailed breakdown of what they have in each location. I am not sure if this includes some of the one-off older bottles they have but it is pretty easy to check what is available where.
I say do the KL-Beltramo-VinVinoWine trail… starting at RWC and ending in Palo Alto.
Was hoping to get the RWC tasting. Been wanting to get more exposure to reserve Rioja wines. Looks like a great line up
I’d go to SF. The Wine Club is a block away and has a good selection of burgs. If you can make your way over to Arlequin in Hayes, their selection is fantastic. They sell Fourrier at significantly lower than market prices for some reason.
