Reco needed: Chocolate dessert in NY to buy for dinner party?

I’m going to someone’s home in NY Saturday night for a dinner party and when I asked what I could bring, she said “you could bring something chocolaty/decadent for dessert” - ok, what and where in Manhattan can I get something wonderful that meets that description? Not sure how many people will be in attendance - my guess is 6-8.

TIA

One of my favorite NY bakeries. Call them and see what they have to offer. You should have enough time for a special request. They are best known for cookies and brownies but they make great cakes too

I’ve always thought Payard Patisserie does a nice job: http://www.payard.com/Cakes-Pastries_c_24.html

Only one choice when in NYC.

As much as I’d love the babka, I don’t think that’s what she had in mind.

Wilfred, as between the Trianon ( chocolate flourless cake with chocolate mousse, caramel crèmeux and fleur de sel), the Tart au Chocolat Guanaja (Chocolate sponge cake covered in dark chocolate ganache, crunchy grue de cacao and a chocolate chantilly cream. All on top of a sweet dough), or the Louvre cake (Enrobed in a chocolate glaze is chocolate mousse and hazelnut mousse layered with a hazelnut dacquoise over a hazelnut wafer), which would you select? Or which is best?

I was referencing Seinfeld, perhaps you’re not a fan.

or more accurately - was a fan from the beginning and so watched those episodes so long ago I no longer remember them

Not much of a fan if you gave up just because new episodes stopped.

If they are out of the chocolate bobka, you might consider the cinnamon bobka.

Cinnamon takes a back seat to no bobka. People love cinnamon. It should be on tables at restaurants along with salt and pepper…

Lesser bobka? I think not.

This

Which - the Trianon (chocolate flourless cake with chocolate mousse, caramel crèmeux and fleur de sel) or the Louvre (Enrobed in a chocolate glaze is chocolate mousse and hazelnut mousse layered with a hazelnut dacquoise over a hazelnut wafer)? or something else?

I’m not a huge fan of hazelnut, so I’d opt for the Trianon. You could aslo call them and ask what else they have (that may not be listed on the web site).

As I’m sure you noticed, Payard is not cheap. But it’s worth it.

thanks - not sure the Louvre is “available” anyway - I’ll call later today and find out which fits the request the best.

She told me not to bring wine - “like taking sand to the beach” she said - well, who doesn’t want more sand on a beach, I say!
