Damn
oh well, thank goodness I’m not buying things by the case before trying…
Henri Germain Meursault 1er cru Poruzots 2014 - golden color, buttery nose, definitely evolved. Not premoxed in my book (ie not the one where you smell once and you know it’s gone). Palate good and enjoyable, but not “wow” (I’ve had some from the early 2000s where you indeed go “wow”). Bought a few years ago on the secondary market.
Oof. Well, mental note to drink the couple bottles of 24 I bought from Panzer on arrival in the fall.
Bruno Lorenzon Montagny 1er Cru Le Mont Laurent 2022
Nicely chalky. Crisp apples and citrus fruit, rainwater. Bit of cream. Lots of dry extract and a touch of bitterness. Good acidity but less than other Lorenzons I’ve had. Fantastic value at the $50 I paid; just flat out good wine.
2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Tight tight tight. Despite decanting. Attractive nose but very unforthcoming in mouth.
Only just now saw this, looks like a pretty consistent offender indeed.
too young? I have some bottles of 2021 that drinks really nice.
Folatieres 2019 ~2 years ago was top tier
The reds are fantastic, particularly from Pommard.
2020 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Les Blanchots
This was a bargain in my local shop back in 2022. Didnt know anything about them so only got two but oh do I wish I got more. Very chablis in style, marine elements, citrus and great acidity. I would say the only thing not grand cru about this is the length which was on the short side. Delicious summer drink.
2021 Dauvissat Forest last night was too dark and well along the road to Premox. I think I’m done buying Dauvissat until they switch to Diam. Sad because I love them when they are right.
Agreed, I stopped buying 5 years ago, and sold most of what I had accumulated because of premox.
Write them. I do all the time when I open a premox or corked bottle, especially expensive bottles. Many times the winery will send a replacement.
That looks like a wine from the mid-90’s not 2021
Ouch :(! Gold is the colour of sadness for a '21.
We’ve been pretty luck in NZ with Dauvissat for the last few years. Forest from 2014 is often advanced, but most wines show very well.
2020 Bouchard Meursault Clous last night had some notes consistent with slightly advanced bottle. Hopefully just random.
I filled a three ounce bottle with the remains of the Les Clos and am drinking it now. Sooo much better! Really long and tasty. But sit on these (or give it many hours of air) if yours have been well-stored.
Why does this happen? Does it happen in other white wines? Can it happen in reds?
You, sir, are quite an optomist!
Many experts have tried to figure that out. Many winemakers are convinced it is not the cork closure or else they would abandon cork.
I assume it’s not just limited to white Burgundy though, correct?
