On the other spectrum, I’ve had all of those bottlings from Lafon multiple times in the past year and all have been fabulous. Germain and Boillot are dead to me.

Things certainly seem a lot better at Lafon since they started using DIAM.

I agree. We opened a 22 Meursault Perrieres that was under Diam30 and it was rocking. Those corks are long, probably 2 inches and very firm.

You could cross post this in the “What Sherry am I drinking” topic. . .

Great wines and unbeatable for the price. Édouard is running the domaine on his own now though.

Haha I have a Dujac Puligny Folatieres lined up to try soon. Will need to manage my expectations down

Not quite. Dujac makes excellent Folatieres, and also some really nice white Moreys. Please report back on the Folatieres.

Opened the '20 Domaine Jadot Meursault Genevrieres and the '20 Bruno Lorenzon Montagny 1er Cru Le Choix du Roi Blanc this weekend. '20 Keller Hipping Riesling GG and '85 Dominus as well.

The Jadot was superb. A classic, full bodied Meursault with enough acid framing to give it great persistence. Some toasted hazelnuts, lemon oil, and a touch of lemon peel. Stylistically this reminded me of Leflaive. The Domaine Jadot whites have really elevated in the last few vintages.

The Lorenzon was open and fleshed out already. Heavy orchard fruit profile with Anjou pear being the most prominent. Acid was present but the wine came across as delicate alongside the more powerful Jadot. Very well made and impressive.

For what it’s worth, the '85 Dominus was exceptional and is at it’s glorious peak. This would be so fun to open blind against the '85 first growths. The Keller was a huge treat and I could have smelled the glass all day. The palate was still tight and linear though. An intense and powerful wine that will reward another 10 years of aging.

Thanks @Tom_Gutting for the Lorenzon and @RyanC for the Keller!

Can’t say ”yet another premoxed white burg” as I honestly can’t remember the last one. That said it still sucks, couldn’t they even give DIAM a shot? I think William Kelley rec’ed this domaine somewhere, we’ll see soon if the 2019 Cuvée Jean delivers the goods or is a similar letdown.

  • 2019 Jean Javillier Meursault Les Petits Charrons - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (5.6.2026)
I reached for this bottle purely as someone somewhere had a young, oxidized bottle of Javillier Meursault and shared the bad news with the world. Here the color is not necessarily that alarming. The nose likewise doesn’t yell advanced but the aromatics are muddled and the fruit far from fresh or zippy. On the palate it becomes more obvious, as the muddled, advanced fruit has taken over and all primary characteristics are a distant memory. The acidity is not gone but it still comes off as tired and somewhat over the hill. (NR/flawed)

Some recent datapoints.

2020 - Sawyer and I drank the wines a couple posts above. I agree with his impressions. 2020 is in a great spot at the moment. The Jadot was so proper and satisfying.

2019 Dom. Leflaive Bourgogne - Another reinforcement for my view that 2019s are drinking great. Pure and deep with dry extract. Punching way above Bourgogne level.

2019 H. Germain Meursault - Had heard some troubling premox reports, which prompted me to open this one and the 2018 Charmes. No worries with these bottles. Both fresh as a daisy with exceptional purity. 2019 came out ahead.

2018 H. Germain Meursault Charmes - This has always been lovely. Doesn’t have quite the presence of class of 19/20 but quite pure and well-proportioned. In a nice spot. 18s are underrated.

2019 Pierre Girardin Meursault Tillets - This was a hyper-concentrated ball of energy in its youth but a few years have rounded it out a bit. Still quite intense but nice and loved by all. Fresh and young.

I’ve had bad issues with this producer and stopped buying. A shame. @William_Kelley has touted them and sound bottles are excellent.

Apparently the red burgs from them are where it’s at.

Better than Rousseau even

Decided to open one to check in. A 2021 and it’s totally shot already. Badly premoxed.

Opened a 2017 Henri Germain Meursault Limosin last night to see how it was faring vis-à-vis premox. Color was light gold, nose was citrusy and stony, and the palate was full and expressive. I felt it might be showing a little older than expected, but that could have all been in my head. It was a very nice wine, but not a great one.

“Javillier. Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a very long time.” -OB1 Kenobi.

I recall sone pretty unremarkable Javillier whites (probably Meursault but we’re talking 1990s so I can’t remember). Swore off them then.
