  • 2002 Tensley Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (7/24/2011)
These Tensley wines are finally ready to enjoy. Took years but worth the wait. Popped and let sit on counter for 45 minutes. Red fruits, cassis, garrigue on nose. Smooth, earthy, restrained but pure fruit on palate. Medium to full bodied. Paired exceptionally well with lamb chops, Tuscan beans and grilled eggplant and green onions. Only gripe would be it is a little heady but a very well balanced wine at 9 years of age. No hurry as this will last many more years in cellar.
  • 2009 Domaine du Salvard Cheverny Rosé Delaille - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Cheverny (7/24/2011)
Fantastic again, love this wine on a hot afternoon. Lovely mix of fresh squeezed strawberry juice and something savory. Best when fully chilled.
  • 2005 Domaine Robert-Denogent Pouilly-Fuissé Les Reisses - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé (7/13/2011)
One of the best white wines of the year for me. Fantastic.
  • 2007 Bodegas Vidal Rueda Amarre - Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda (7/13/2011)
Little more savory this time around in a very good way.
  • 2007 Gilbert Picq Chablis Dessus La Carriere - France, Burgundy, Chablis (7/13/2011)
I got the oyster shell, seaspray, lemon/lime but also a nice hint of honey. These are getting better with time.
  • 2009 Domaine Ninot Mercurey 1er Cru Les Crêts - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey 1er Cru (7/12/2011)
P&P’d. Nice soft easy going pinot. Ripe dark cherry, earthy, soy sauce on nose and more of the same on palate with maybe some rhubarb pie as well. Very well balanced and seems to have some structure as well.

Day 2 - Wine took on quite a bit of body. Over the course of 2 hours the wine went from sweet cherry fruit/full bodied to savory/medium bodied to very subtle fruit/spice driven. Then circled all the way back to sweet cherry. Enjoyable ride.
