I have no idea whether locking down a whole facility so that nothing comes in or goes out is within their rights, but I suspect it is.
My local village Cooperative was found to have ālostā 8000 hl of fortified wine earlier in the year. The Douanes have closed down and sealed off the winery so this harvest everyone has to take their grapes to another village. Thatās how powerful they are.
Yes I suspected as much but I meant pre-emptively (e.g. investigation underway). Obviously if they have evidence then you donāt want to be caught between that hammer and an anvil.
Ugh. Things just get worse āat homeā, too - the treatment of his wife and children makes me absolutely sick.
Not that heāll ever go back (to his wife and kids, and locked up wine in the abbey, and soon-to-be-evicted home where his wife and kids are) but it sure sounds like he wonāt be welcome back to CĆ“te de Nuits anytime soon - theyāll stone him.
I canāt believe that Eric is suddenly trying to distance himself from his buddy Ray Walker. I would have hoped heād shown more courageā¦like the courage that cat showed when it saved the child from that pack of dogs.
Btw, does anyone know whatever happened to those dogs?
I sure hope nobody on WB has ordered any '13, '14 or '15 wines, because even if you COULD get them (unlikely, as heās fled the authorities and the wines are locked up by the authorities for unpaid bills/taxes/rent) you wouldnāt want them. From a villager:
In spring 2014, in April or May - I could check again with my friend to confirm the date - a friend who is neighbor of Ilan House in Nuits-Saint-Georges had been using an electrician to do electrical work outside of his house. When the worker is mounted on the roof of the house, he had a perfect view of the courtyard Ilan House, what he saw was astounding: crates and cardboard boxes filled with unlabeled bottles of wine, all full with corks, hundreds of bottles, all on which it had already rained the day before, part of lot was coverd with a transparent plastic sheet, the boxes were wet and bottles scattered here and there in the back yard lying under a blazing sun of the afternoon. The electrician went back the next day to finish the work, the crates, cardboard boxes and bottles had not yet been moved.
These wines remained there for at least two days, if not more, they were definitely damaged but never the consumer will know.
This story circulating since among some wine people who simply could not believe it, but this is indeed true event. Since this event, many people have lost faith in Ilan House and are very suspicious of the quality of wines Ilan House and professionalism of Mr. Walker.
