Ravenswood library offer

Happy to open any of these if you are up in the South OC.

Or, could do an offline in South OC?

Guessing some/most of these should be drank sooner than later.

That would be a fun idea. I still have a couple left. I’m in Carlsbad so South OC is easy

and I’m south OC also - would be perfect to set something up! I’d love to try a Cab Franc, as I didn’t receive any. I can get us the private tasting room at Off The Vine in Laguna Hills - huge tasting table - or we can try to find a restaurant in San Clemente that would be cool with bringing in a bunch of wine for a tasting.

Thoughts?

Definitely interested. Off The Vine maybe better than a restaurant due to the special handling for these old wines, but open to a restaurant as well. I’ll be sure not to drink the Cab Franc before the offline ;-).

Yeah, gotta stand them up for 48 hours or so, then be sure you don’t jostle them on the drive! We did a tasting with @LisaT there and it worked really well, have the place to ourselves, really

I wonder if I should put this together the weekend of Falltacular? Friday before?

If you’re coming to Falltacular I’ll bring a ā€˜92 Sangiacomo Merlot.

of course I’m coming to Falltacular! See the edit on my post above yours…considering doing this Friday afternoon before Falltacular maybe? Guess that exposes people to crap traffic, though…

I’m going to the pre-Falltacular sinner with Arnie but am available before as my flight gets in at 11am.

sounds saucy!!!

Crap!

I usually stand them up for a couple of days and then double decant before drinking. That’s what I’ll do and the bottle will easily survive the 40 minute drive up

My case arrived today in the Chicago area.

1977 Zinfandel El Dorado County
1983 Zinfandel Sonoma County
Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County trio- 1984, 1988 & 1989
Merlot Sonoma County duo - 1990** & 1992
Cabernet Franc Sonoma County trio - 1994, 1996** & 1999
1994 Zinfandel Napa Valley
1996 Zinfandel Amador County

** I’ve had these two in the prior library releases, and they showed well, so it will be nice to have another go at them now a few years later.

1977 El Dorado Zin (going to need a ah-so for this one for sure)
1983 Sonoma Zin
1984 Sonoma Cab
1988 Sonoma Cab
1988 Canard Zin
1990 Sonoma Merlot
1992 Sonoma Merlot
1994 Sonoma Cab Franc
1994 Napa Zin
1996 Sonoma Cab
1996 Sonoma Cab Franc
1999 Sonoma Cab Franc

Just missed a couple milestone years, but ā€˜96 does mark my families westward migration to the Bay. Will absolutely take it and the fun that lies ahead.

1993 Sangiacomo Merlot tonight, from the magnum release. My daughter’s birth year, for her birthday dinner.

We went to an old-school steakhouse and I can’t think of a better new world wine for an old school steakhouse than this one. These merlots just continue to outperform. Only defect was that the front label fell off just before we left and I didn’t notice until we got to the restaurant. Found it when we got back home.

Great to hear, ive got a 93 and 96 in mag

ā€˜99 Icon was solid tonight. Syrah is not Joel’s wheelhouse, but the wine was better than good.

Good to hear. There is one of those in my cellar.

My order arrives tomorrow. Crazy age statements that you guys posted. Did not expect to see 70’s wines in there.

@Mike_Stoneking was kind enough to share a 1988 Dickerson Zin last night - and it was spectacular. Great acidity, quite a bit of fruit left, and unlike so many older zins that I’ve had, this retained it’s ā€˜zin character’ rather than going the route of clarets that so many seem to do. Bravo indeed!
