There is a relaunch of the brand after being sunset and reworked post Constellations demolition and Gallo’s acquisition of the brand. Looks like the return of some board favorite vineyards. Pricing ranging from $26.99 on Dry Creek to ~$69.99 on the single vineyards.
I wonder if there will be any continuity in style. Or is this just another corporate brand purchase? Will they be made in Modesto?
I would not count on the style being that of Joel’s and likely made at one of the Sonoma facilities. The more premium brands rarely come out of Modesto.
I didn’t actually look deeper into the website, but it does look like Joel is consulting.
This will be interesting. I hear very little of zinfandel with the average drinker these days - we’ll see if these can move the needle a bit. And with Joel consulting, I’m sure they’re hoping for some of his ‘magic’ imparted into the wines.
This is not the first time Gallo has partnered with an OG - their Language of Yes brand is a parnership with Randall Graham.
Cheers
I dont think they were as well positioned to sell Rhone as they are Zinfandel.
Gallo has such a diverse portfolio - they can choose to push into nearly any category these days.
Cheers
I wonder if JP will scale back Once & Future to just be doing consulting. Feels like it could be a smart retirement move.
"Joel Peterson is a true American icon. His track record of turning out brilliant wines stretches back to the mid-1970s. Now 77, Peterson continues to make compelling wines at Once & Future. In fact, some of the 2023s I tasted recently are among the most vivid, riveting wines I have tasted from Peterson. At the same time, I was deeply struck by the reality that Peterson is slowing down a bit and making fewer wines. The time will come, perhaps within the next few years, when Peterson retires and Once & Future ceases to exist. These wines, from some of the most pedigreed sites in Sonoma, represent little pieces of history. When they are gone, they are gone. I can’t encourage readers strongly enough to check out these 2023s. " - Antonio Galloni, January 2025
This from the release letter, seems to suggest that
Would be great to see this fantastic label return to power.
If the wines are excellent that will be fantastic. That said, I doubt they will be making “Ravenswood” wines.
Does EJG have a bunch of open-top redwood fermenters in any of their Sonoma facilities?
Ugh, thanks. I was going to pass on this allocation of O&F too. I guess this is the vintage and time to load up on his wine.
