Randall Grahm + Gallo = The Language of Yes

The Language of Yes is a new collaboration between Randall Grahm and Gallo.****

As I understand it, Gallo provides access to its vineyards, and Grahm makes the wine. At present, TLoY has released only one wine - 75 cases of a Santa Barbara AVA Rosé of Tibouren/Cinsault.

This new label currently produces one wine:

Language of Yes 2020 Pink Wine, “Le Cérisier”:
(65% Tibouren, 35% Cinsaut)

"Cinsault and Tibouren are two old Provençal varieties, particularly well suited to our changèd climatic situation, collaborating in this instance in the New World to produce a wine of great refinement and unique fragrance - cherries and almond blossom most vividly.

“What is particularly seductive about the wine is its texture: raised on its lees for more than nine months, the wine underwent complete malolactic fermentation and was bottled without filtration, imparting a rich and creamy mouthfeel. We believe (somewhat counter-intuitively) the pink wine to be capable of considerable evolution and will repay several years of cellaring…”.

The Independent
“Randall Grahm Now Speaking the Language of Yes”

by Matt Kettmann
August 30, 2021

"…This iconoclastic, independent-minded wine legend is now partnering with the all-powerful Gallo family on a new project called The Language of Yes. Given that he’s sourcing grapes from Gallo’s ‘Rancho Real Vineyard’ — also known as ‘Murmur’, which lies alongside 101 just south of Orcutt - Grahm is now a Santa Barbara County story as well.

“…Grahm grafted the Tibouren onto ‘Creston Ridge Vineyard’ in Paso Robles and sourced Syrah and Grenache for red wines from ‘Rancho Real’. The Tibouren is fantastic, tons of texture and restrained fruit flavors, while the Syrah and Grenache - which will be released in October - are also unique expressions, in part because Grahm dried the grapes outside for a couple of days before pressing them. In addition to the three wines, they plan to add perhaps another wine each vintage, including a possible Amarone-style Cinsault co-fermented with Syrah, if the timing works out this harvest…”.

Taking vineyards that bulk fruit for $8 a bottle and with a little additional care and feeding produce a premium wine.

Kendall Jackson did the exact thing with Wells/Copain - let him select vineyards/blocks he liked and bottle them under the copain label instead of bulking out for KJ Reserve Chardonnay

This Pink - which was a Bererker Day purchase for me - is just wonderful! Lovely mix of fun to drink with worth drinking. I really love something special to drink in the warm weather each evening by the lake - and I think this may be the one.

I read some really nice reviews of a second wine he offered on BD14 - sort of a amarone-style Cinsault. I believe the fruit for the rose comes from the same place as our Sangiovese, Creston Ridge Vineyard.

I have tried one bottle of the Cinsault, and it was yummy. I will post a note next time I have one.
