r/WineEP NYE Dinner: DP 2000, Bollinger PN AYC18, Giaconda, LCHB & More! [TNs + Pics]

Happy New Year!

A group of 5 from the r/WineEP Discord got together for dinner on New Years Eve kindly hosted by u/Remarkable_Elk1163 and enjoyed a great lineup of wines!

Highlight for me was the Dom 2000 but the Giaconda 2016 went down well too.

A full list of wines below as well as some brief tasting notes amalgamated from the group (for some of them!)

Please come over and say hi! There are wine events organised by Discord users all over the world every month!

Dom Perignon 2000

Still plenty of life left in this, beautiful golden colour with marzipan notes. Still had some fizz left

Champagne Bollinger, PN AYC 18, Brut

Disgorged Jan 2023. Bubbly and very alive (perhaps amplified having followed the DP?). 100% Pinot Noir so pretty full bodied. Felt like it could benefit from a few years in bottle though. Will definitely pick up some more

2016 Giaconda Estate Vineyard Chardonnay

One person said that if you had told them it was a GC burgundy from a top producer they would have instantly said “of course, and it shows”. But it had a little bit more concentration maybe? Basically it was top notch Chardonnay at the pinnacle of what can be achieved with Australian oaked Chardonnay grapes. The target all the antipodean butter bombs are aiming at

Vincent Dauvissat Chablis 2018

Some thought this wasn’t this wines best showing but that could be because of the vintage. I enjoyed it and think it nicely fit the bill for a standard Chablis

2017 Château Les Carmes Haut Brion, Pessac Léognan

We did the LCHB and Kirwan side-by-side and blind. All we knew is that they were both Cru Classe BDX which was fun

Pretty good, needs 5+ years but definite promise. Cab Franc was evident but interestingly no noticeable whole cluster character

Château Kirwan Margaux 2017

Dark ripe fruit and cassis, graphite made me guess st julien blind, a bit of a spiced note

2019 Barolo Vigna Rionda, Guido Porro

2008 Massolino Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda

2001 Fratelli Alessandria Gramolere

Old but certainly not dead! A great relic from a past vintage.

Langhe Nebbiolo, Produttori del Barbaresco 2021

This caused some debate as it did not fit the typical bill for a Langhe Nebbiolo being more rich and heavy than you might expect. That being said I thoroughly enjoyed it and it is the r/WineEP Wine Club wine of the month!

2017 Clos du Prieuré Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

This was wine 11 between 5 people so if you want a tasting note, try CellarTracker
