Quoting messages discussion

Thank you. I appreciate you clarifying that.

Nah. It’s buggy. Better than the old platform, but buggy. And I haven’t complained before about it other than in this thread.

Many of the ‘post(s) deleted by author’ are caused by the software randomly inserting drafts into other discussion topics or somewhere other than intended by the poster.

Edit: this post was in reply to Chris’ post, not John’s, but the software had other ideas…

Most of those “bugs” are likely user error, tbh.

Not in this instance. Just because you haven’t encountered it doesn’t mean that the problem doesn’t exist.

getting somewhat philosophical, but as someone that works for a software company, no.

these are fundamental UX issues where the user isn’t experiencing the expected behavior. they are not bugs - it works as intended by the publisher. but the user is frustrated by how it works. how should it work? no idea. you’d need a UX expert to come in and do a deep dive on testing and feedback but as seen in this thread, there’s confusion by the users on how replies are displayed. doesn’t mean a fix is necessary or even warranted, but it’s there. you can’t blame the user for using the product as its designed to be used and being frustrated by it.

I think the main thing is that there are two ways to reply, hit reply on particular post which puts a link back to it, or hit reply at the end of the thread which doesn’t link to any post.

Almost, but not quite. Even if you click reply on a post, if it’s the latest post in the thread, no link is added. So if that person doesn’t quote, you can’t tell if they replied to the last post or the entire thread. That’s the complaint, that it’s not consistent to always add the link.

I hear that a lot…and often it’s true. But not always.

Bingo. That’s my gripe, and it’s quite frustrating.

On the top right corner of the no-quote response it shows that you’ve replied to a comment from a prior poster. Hover above it and it gives you the option to “Load Parent Post”. If you click there, it shows the entire post you responded to so you can see the chain.

What you want is at your fingertips.

Ignore this post.

Crow does not taste very good, Neal.

Better with a nice Champagne, though.

as Al says, just wash it down with some champagne

Crow goes with pretty much any good wine. I should know, I pair them all the damn time.
