Quick impressions of 2012 Montrose and Rauzan Segla

I have been cellaring these for years, since they showed up on the shelves 10 years or so ago. Renowned Chateau from a not so renowned vintage, it seemed like it was time to try them. I was very happily surprised by both…surprise because they exceed expectations. Both wines, drank on separate dates, were utterly delicious. I do not know what these wines were like young, but if there were tannins, they are resolved. Both had beautiful balance. Neither was “big”, and I would not classify the finishes as long, but they were very beautiful wines. Both drank PNP, and consumed in about 2 hours. The Rauzan was starring to fade at the end, the Montrose was still going strong.
