A client of a friend has several of these units, model 283, to sell as he’s moving from a house to an apt. I see that the are over $3000 new (!) - but he’s offering them at a big discount. Are they any good? Does anyone have any experience with them? And if anyone in the DC area thinks they might be interested, send me a PM and I’ll forward details. But I’m very interested in people’s opinions on this unit.
Love mine.
Some background:
I got my first Eurocave in 1982. What a treat to be able to take my wines from under my basement steps.
This unit I speak of is still running, although not mine any longer. it did get a compressor in about 1996.
I had a Vinoteque Mignon that although pretty, was not as efficent.
For my 45th birthday my wife purchase me a new Eurocave 283. Anyway, I love it. it is not the quietest piece of machinery, but efficient and reliable. I woud recco to replace the charcoal filter as recco’d. I would ask if there was any service issues, and ask where originally purchased. Call them and ask if there is any service history. Depending on how old it is, I would say a unit could/should last 10-12 worry free years. Beyond that I would be concerned to replace.
Enjoy! Its a great unit.
One more thing: Wine Enthusiasts has scratch and dent units for sale usually with free shipping for about $1900-$2200.
I’ve had two of them for over 5 years each…no problems yet…the sliding drawers make things much easier but also eat up room…with all drawers instead of fixed shelves your storage probably maxes out at 150-175 bottles I’m guessing…larger than standard bordeaux sized bottles just kill your numbers too
I don’t think I’ll be taking one as I have an actual cellar (although it’s overfull - but I swear I’m stopping my incessant wine-buying!!!) and I don’t have anyplace to put it. But I’m asking because I want to know whether to encourage friends to take one - and he’s asking $750 plus you pay for moving it (someone is available to do that work I understand).
They are built to last. Very happy with mine. No problems, after ten years. Will you be at the ASF convention this weekend?
nope - but thanks for the info
