Quality Sekt in the U.S

My wife and I enjoy Sekt. We like it as a beverage, and as a reminder of some of our travels. But I’ve had a tough time finding Sekt in the U.S. And most of the Sekt I have found hasn’t been great quality. Even looking on Wine Searcher, there seems to be very little Sekt that’s available to ship to my home state.

Is Sekt just not imported to the U.S. very much? Am I screwing up my WS search somehow?

Any recommendations for quality Sekt that’s available in the U.S.?

I’m not sure if it’s available in the US (it is in Canada) but Griesel & Compagnie makes excellent Sekt. In particular I love their Pinot blanc and blanc de noir.

It’s a tough category in the U.S. The price is not that much less than entry-level champagne and definitely higher than cava and prosecco so selling Sekt is difficult. As far as I know, the main Sekt-focused wineries from Germany (Griesel mentioned above, Raumland, Vaux) are not imported or are only imported sporadically. What does get imported is Sekt made by wineries focusing on Riesling. WDC has 11 Sekt listed for my market. Of those, I would recommend the two from Diel, as well as Bründlmayer and Gobelsburg from Austria.

Good sekts is the key to any happy marriage (sorry, couldn’t help myself).

My wife and I enjoy Peter Lauer vintage Sekt, especially the back vintage riservas released with newer disgorgements. While not cheap, the are still less than many entry level champagnes and the recent vintages are in the $40 range.

I have not had it myself, but I just saw a youtube video of Eric Asimov really enjoying a von Winning Sekt at the $30 price point.

Seconded! Griesel is hands down one of the best Sekt producers I know.

I have very much envoyed Lauer’s Sekt.

Loosen Bros imports Maxim Grunhaus and Robert Weil Sekt if you can find it! The Grunhaus is pretty good. I think you can order on their website or order from J. Christopher Winery in the Willamette Valley

I’m yet to get very excited about any I’ve tried. Though people speak highly of Krack.

Keller and (Julian) Haart versions are resting on the lees though so it may change!
