I am drinking a 2001 Puligny Champs Gain from Pierre-Yve Colin-Morey tonight.
This is the 4th bottle out of case. Consistent notes.
4/22/2012: This is an extraordinary bottle of wine period.
The nose has that glorious mix of white fruit, truffle and fresh citrus.
The palate is focused with white fruit and minerals. The finish goes on and on.
This is one of the best Pulignys I have tasted in some time. A Zen type of balance.
Profound!
Is this the new Domaine Leflaive??? That is the kind of intensity I find here.
Wow!
BTW, I know he produces quite a bit from Chassagne and Meursault. His Puligny side wines are just so fabulous!
Thanks for the note. I’ve only ever tasted a few Chassagnes 1er Crus from this domaine, which were indeed quite extracted but also rather clumsy and oaky. However, I’ll be visiting Msr. Morey’s cellar in about three weeks to taste through his 2010’s and possibly 2011’s. Suffice to say, I’m looking forward to see what all the fuss is about.
Thanks Don, really like what I’ve tried from here and they seem to have the dry extract and plenty of sulphur to have a fair chance of aging well.
Best Regards
Jeremy
I am a total PYCM fan-boy - his 10 En Remilly is stunning like you said; a real inspiration for me as a winemaker. His wines are still great value, especially his St Aubins which he bottles early.
That particular outfit is maintained right now by Etienne de Montille if I am correct. (Chateau de Puligny Montrachet) Never had a red from St Aubin. Interested in how it tasted.
I have posted on his BBM, the best I’ve had–better than Ramonet, Pernot and Carillon. Great guy and winemaker who Jerry Hey has been rightfully touting for a long time.

PYCM is definitely the new star in white Burgundy. I have tasted at his cellar in his house in Puligny and had a couple dinners in LA with him and George Derbalian, his importer. Some of his wines I’ve tasted are the 04 Montrachet, Chevalier, and Meursault Perrieres, 05 Chevalier, Batard, Meursault Perrieres, Saint Aubin en Remilly, a few 06’s, all the 09’s, and the 10 Saint Aubin en Remilly. I’d say that the wines are a mix of Leflaive and Roulot - lots of minerality and spine with sulfur to age well. Buy them if you see them - especially the Saint Aubin for its QPR. And with all that PYCM is a very nice man.
