So, i’m about to spend two weeks in the Clearwater area and i understand Publix is our local supermarket. I have zero experience with this chain at all so if anyone can provide me with any opinions or recommendations i’d be really appreciative. I think given the relative high price of Cali/Oregon/Washington wine in the UK, i’d be looking, mostly, here.
I’ve never shopped at a Publix, but if you’re willing to drive about 14 miles north, there is reportedly a very good store called B-21. Very good pricing too.
Chris - if you are within 15 miles of B21, that is your only choice. One of the top liquor stores in the country, with a terrific wine program. Great prices as well.
How much is a full Thanksgiving dinner at Publix?
Totally random, but I figure a Publix shopper might see this.
A friend is going to be in Florida for the holiday and she is weighing her options.
We vacation annually in Naples now, and I do most of my shopping at a Publix. The wine selection and pricing is quite poor, even by supermarket standards.
Could you find a few things there worth drinking in a pinch? Sure. But I wouldn’t plan on doing any actual wine shopping there.
I shop at the Publix in Marathon Florida while on fishing trips. Expect a poor wine selection, especially from France and Italy. CA might be a little better. I managed to find a Chianti and Chablis last time that weren’t too bad.
B-21 is awesome for sure. Also try to pop into West Palm Wines, which is on 22nd st in Tampa, and say hello to Jim and Mark, good selection and a really compelling old(er) and rare room.
Chris- great advice here. This total wine is pretty good and has a nice selection of US Wines if your close by . B-21 though sets the bar in the metro Tampa area. Their folks working the floor also have a terrific knowledge of wine. Rhett is a great guy for suggestions. They also have a killer Burgundy and Rhone selection.
