2021 Goodfellow Psycho Killer Chardonnay - A bit of flinty reduction, which fades to allow bright lemon, crisp apple, peach, a hint of lychee and a piney component to show through. Good acidity but surprisingly generous in the fruit category, with layers of fairly unique fruit flavors for a bright Oregon chardonnay. Wonderful length and complexity, and gorgeously knit together. A special chardonnay. Well done!
Qu’est-ce que c’est
My first bottle was about a year ago, and it was really reductive. Your note sounds encouraging, but I think I will wait a while longer.
Truly getting sick of finding out more Goodfellow Chardonnays I haven’t tried that are ALSO amazing.
@Marcus_Goodfellow I think it’s time to do a Chardonnay pack for BerserkerDay…and if you’ve already offered that, humor me, as I never have time to look at the offers!
Great Mike Mills/Saoirse Ronan video made to celebrate this release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ54eImz88w&pp=ygUbcHN5Y2hvIGtpbGxlciB0YWxraW5nIGhlYWRz
If you were a cobbler your kids would be shoeless.
Is there like a different art label for this wine each year with different psycho killers? Have to go look up the story behind this.
No, 2021 is the only Psycho Killer bottling to date.
And per the release email notes:
“The 2021 Temperance Hill barrels were named after my then 4-year-old’s favorite songs. The group included songs by the Ramones, the Cure, and Wall of Voodoo, but the absolute standout was an 820-liter puncheon named after “Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads. Jancis described “Psycho Killer” simply saying, “that tastes like Premier Cru Burgundy”. We’re extremely pleased with this wine and are very happy to debut it today.”
Love 2021 Psycho Killer.
I thought Marcus mentioned doing other special one-off bottles in the future named after songs (likely not PN since there is already the Heritage wines). I assume the sparkling wine project took priority.
Reputedly it is Fa fa fa fa, fa fa fa fa fa far better than the other Chardonnay cuvées
You start a bottle
You can’t even finish it
You’re drinking a lot
But you’re not saying anything
When I have nothing to drink
My glass is empty
Drink something once
Why drink it again
I have only two bottles of Psycho killer, and I was debating whether to open this for some friends in a few weeks. I’m afraid it may be too early, but this is certainly a nudge.
Obligatory crosspost…
Edit: The link wasn’t working, so cross posting the text:
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the band, Talking Heads have released a new music video for their 1977 single, “Psycho Killer.”
Saoirse Ronan Is just plain AWESOME
That’s brilliant…
Funny thing, we’re bottling the 2023 Chardonnays, except the already bottled Berwerker Cuvee, in 2 weeks right ahead of this Berserker event that happens the weekend after. Nothing ships until fall, so a Chardonnay pack seems perfect.
Early but if you decide to open it, decanting it a bit ahead of time is probably a good call. If you’re drinking it over an evening, it’s fun to watch it evolve but if you have a group I’d guess an hour in a decanter will help open it up.
Yeah that’s probably about right. It remains reductive but there’s so much “there” there. Glad I have more.
