Prisoner question

A friend of mine has offered to bring a bottle of Prisoner (2014) to a little shindig I’m hosting.

Does anyone have any experiences with this wine? I’d like to get the most out of this wine; what sort of decanting treatment should I give it?

Decant it into the sink and be surprised how quickly it’ll be consumed.

Find new friends.

You really need to stop fraternizing with the hoi polloi.

For a widely sold wine it’s not bad actually. CT has it at a 90.5 which is about right. Probably a little overpriced but all in all should be reasonably enjoyable.

I’d uninvite them.

Crap, looks like I’ll never be around a.dria.n again :frowning:

I wouldn’t spend a minute worrying about decanting it, but graciously accept their offer unless you can’t pull the “I have plenty of wine, but what we could really use is…”

Pop the cork and let it rip

People will love it

Mark B’s thunder bucket would be even better.

The alcohol content would serve as a cleaner and disinfectant. Judging by the prior pics, I’d recommend three bottles.

Hell yes they will. It’s a super popular wine.

Think of this as you would the Caymus Cab. People who like that will probably like this and those who hate will hate this as well. Personally, I find it acceptable and often often the best wine at non-wine geek hosts parties. Despite the opinion on this BB, it is VERY popular and many people love it. As for decanting, I would let it breathe for an hour but decanting won’t have much effect on it. If your crowd has both geeks and non-wine geeks, this might be perfect as the geeks can pretend how superior their tastes are while the non-geeks have a great time.

I believe this runs around $40, this is a pretty generous friend. Congrats on having good friends.

It all depends on the crowd.

With most of my wine friends, if I were to set that bottle out, it would be untouched. But with other friends, it would be consumed quickly.

So if someone offered to bring that wine, then you know what kind of taste the crowd is likely to have and can set your expectations accordingly. Doesn’t mean they’re bad people. A lot of people like that particular wine, as well as things like Conundrum, Meiomi Pinot Noir, Apothic, Cupcake, Two Buck Chuck, etc. That wine is just more expensive.

Since I can’t say anything nice, I won’t say anything at all.

Gonna be some Cougars there?

Lot of haters on the Prisoner. Non wine people will love it. Before I had experience with wine I really got a kick out of this.

To answer your question, pop and pour should be fine, decant for a couple hours would be even better, but don’t serve it too warm - to me, room temp is too warm. If you feel the bottle and it feels room temp-ish, leave it in the fridge for about 15 minutes and you’ll be good to go.

My wife says, “If they want to drink The Prisoner, we’re drinking The Prisoner.”

I say, “No, if anyone opens a Prisoner, I’m leaving. I am NOT drinking any f*cking The Prisoner!”

Apologies to Sideways.

As to the question, pop and pour and offer to make spritzers with it, as well!

Could get some fruits and make a good Sangria out of it, perfect for this blazing weekend. But nonetheless, i’m sure some will like it, quite an easy wine.

Sangria!
