I’ve had the privilege once of tasting a vertical of Prima Materia’s Aglianico. People have asked me whether Pietro’s wines can be aged and are a “set it and forget it” wine. I’ve actually never “set it and forget it” because I’m not patient enough to let them sit in the cellar long enough. But when you do, the earthiness, herbaciousness, complexity, and smoothness comes through. This is standing Prime Rib roast quality wine!

Thanks @T1_Ng0 you are totally right - for lovers of big red wines with a Bordeaux-ish feel, Aglianico should really be grown all over California. It also needs very little water and can thrive in those high and rocky places like the Sierra Foothills and even mixed soils like East Paso!

Dug out this in-the-weeds vintage photo from Prima Materia Harvest 2020! I think that’s either Dolcetto or Primitivo if I remember right! More evidence that these wines are literally hand crafted!
