Anybody know what wines will be served at the state dinner tonight?
All this will be washed down by wines from California - Newton “Unfiltered” Chardonnay and Anakota “Knights Valley” Cabernet Sauvignon, along with a California sparkling wine with French roots, Roederer Estate Brut Rose.
According to the articles the wine was selected by Jill Biden.
Should be serving he ultimate California wine - Ridge Geyserville.
Should be serving whatever they want to serve, not what people on Wine Berserkers want them to serve.
Would be ideal to serve wines from around the US. WA sparkling, OR Chard, CA Cab or Red Blend, something sweet for dessert from VA, MI, or NY.
I do think that Jill would have benefited by checking in with us before choosing the wines.
What? no sparkling wine from Virginia ???
Thunderbird…
Boo, David, boring answer.
Sorry - can’t get to the point of telling the people planning a Presidential dinner that they should do what I want them to do.
How about a Trader JOE wine?
Joking aside, I like Kris’ take on what they should do: wines from all over the country. I’d do a WA Bdx. Blend, Oregon Chardonnay, and a sparkler from CA to start. Perhaps a sweeter Riesling from the Finger Lakes for dessert.
I don’t think anyone is telling them what to do, it’s just an interesting topic for wine lovers to discuss.
They chose US wines with French ties to honor both countries. It wasn’t about picking the best US wines available or showcasing the entire country.
IIRC, there was an information embargo during one of the Obama terms where they weren’t publishing the wines served at state dinners due to the “extravagance” of the events… Yet a board member here was attending and that night posted notes to CT and “broke the news” on the wines served!
Anyone remember the days back when David Berkeley advised the Reagan White House on wines they should serve.
Didn’t you break the news on the Grant administration’s wine dinners? I thought that started the Tea Pot Dome scandal.
But that’s what makes a Beserker!
Daniel Shanks used to be the somm and wine buyer for the White House. Not sure when he retired.
I do know a certain someone that…you know. Her story about it was hilarious and I heard it 100 times if I heard it once.
It’s a wine board. People like to talk about wine, in myriad ways. Some you may appreciate, some you may not. Why you feel the need to come in and sh*t on everyone else’s conversations that don’t meet your standards is beyond me. You add do this site in so many other ways, but this crapping all over everyone gets old.
