Premier Cru: Ok to buy from?

They have a good price on some vino I want,I know they have received a lot of negative posts so should I look elsewhere?

Here we go again…uh oh.

Here’s my summary:
Many times they take a long time to deliver the wines ordered if they are “pre-arrivals”. I don’t know anyone that has had large non-delivery issues (maybe a few bottles here or there). However, many people have reservations about handing their money over and taking a chance that they might not come through or end up having financial difficulties. Also, some people are concerned about where they source their wines.

Here we go…

The general consensus seems to be that they almost always deliver but it could taje them years to do so.

In short: You will get your wine. It will take a VERY long time.

This seems to be an instock item,if that makes a difference.

If it’s “in stock,” then they have it. Call the store directly to confirm, and place the order if they confirm they actually have it.

I’ve had very good luck across the board, but if it’s in stock you can buy with 100% confidence. Sometimes they do take a very long time to deliver, but I’ve also had welcome exceptions. For example, I bought some 08 Burgs on pre-arrival that are already in stock.

I’ve dealt with them for a long time. They have delivered every bottle I have ever purchased and the bottles are always pristine. Some wines take a long time to arrive, some arrive quickly, and some are already in stock. If it is in stock, you can take possession of the wine immediately. If not, you need to decide whether it is a wine you need in your collection ASAP or not. I’ve waited a couple of years for some wines.

Most of the wines I order on Pre-arrival are wines that I am not going to be drinking for years anyway so I’m okay with saving the room in my cellar while I wait.

Just make sure you know that if it is corked or cooked, you will have no options but to dump it down the drain.

That’s true of any retailer.

For me, that’s huge. I much rather pay a bit more and know I can return it if it is damaged.

No it’s not.

Ive always been happy with “in stock” items.

I agree with most of what has been said.
They have always been fine to deal with (for me)
You get some pre-arrival great pricing, and the
trade off of somtimes a long time before arrival.
On balance I like them & have bought from them
for a number of years.

Cheers
Rip

No problems, no long waits on futures order when I’ve dealt with them.

Still waiting on one 2004 Bordeaux bought on pre-arrival in 2005. They keep telling me they are looking but who knows at this point.

in stock isn’t an issue at all. pre-arrival… delivery’s not really an issue, but I don’t really see a reason to order wines pre-arrival from them given their history of taking a long time to get wines if you can get the same wine for roughly the same price elsewhere.

+1 Michel.

But to precis the next 300 posts.

there will be two diametrically opposed camps.

One side will say be patient, all will be OK. teh other side will advise caution and warn that PC operates a floored Madoff style business model.

I no longer consider pre-arrivals from them…just scan on down to “In Stock” section. I do a handful of orders from them each year (“In Stock” orders, that is) and never had an issue. They are very flexible about last minute notifications on shipping which are often necessary because of weather fluctuations here.

On “Pre-Arrivals”, it’s another story. I placed large orders for 05 BDX. Some were delivered, others were still pending up until two weeks ago when I finally pulled the trigger on a full refund. The specific wines were clearly going to be a continuing problem because no one else had them.

So I wouldn’t hesitate on “In Stock”, but buyer beware on the top section of the emails [wink.gif]
