Pray for Me... White Zin

Stacey was rummaging thru her Dad’s cellar. She’s bringing to our Wed tasting, two…count 'em… 2 btls of David Bruce White Zinfandel '79. 16.2% alcohol. Both ullaged below the shoulder, with the cork floating in the wine of one of them.
I predict the wines will be better than they have any right to be. Short/boring TN to follow.

Yikes!

Oh, boy! Good luck.

Years ago on a corporate trip to a smaller provincial city we were dining at a soso restaurant. On a whim I paired a white zin (I forget which) with a strawberry & spinach salad. It was actually not a bad pairing. To be clear not worth repeating except under similar circumstances, but I think the only time I’ve finished a full glass.

There are some White Zins that are pretty good. They just don’t say Sutter Home on the label.
But they have their place.

<---- was laughing before he finished the first sentence of the post. Hopefully there will be video of the tasting groups’ reaction . . . .

So your issue is not just White Zin but Aged White Zin.

Deos vobiscum.

Is this actually white zinfandel (i.e. a table wine which is a dry or mostly-dry rose of zinfandel), or is it some kind of late harvest dessert-style zin?

The latter could possibly be interesting, the former would seem to have no chance.

“Mostly dry”. I love it! Great phrase, more evocative than off dry.

At 16.2%, it’s a late hrvst. But I expect it to be pretty dry. And maybe some slight color.
