Light strike.
I dunno if that matters, or not.
Light strike.
I dunno if that matters, or not.
It’s not a lot of light. For light strike, UV is worse but apparently green/blue/violet is more damaging than red. Again, not a lot of light in this application.

The pixels are slightly recessed behind the cardboard tubes so bottles aren’t exposed. But I also don’t run the matrix that much. It’s mostly dark unless I’m using the wine finder app.
I use a headlamp in my cellar . . . .
Yeah, I mean, in the application I was envisioning, the only time any of the lights would be on is when I’m trying to find a bottle. Then the one LED for that slot would be on, only until I grab the bottle. This all amounts to far less light exposure than just having the cellar lights on while I am in there.
(BTW I know this is all completely unnecessary over-engineering to solve a problem that barely exists. Let me have my silly hobbies!)
You deserve a berserker trophy for this ingenuity.
It’s genius. You could even use it for instructions to someone at home if you’re out. “I’ll be home in 20 minutes, please grab the bottle with the light and open it.” Or you’re out of town and you get a question from home - “which bottle can I open without you that goes with spaghetti?” - “Here you go.”
I still have one one of those Intelligrated, neé Real Time Solutions lights from one of those Amazon putwalls hanging around.
Did you do the mural?
No, my FIL did, for my wife and BIL. This was the kids playroom in the 80s
. As my wife and her brother left the household, the playroom became a dump room for everything my FIL didn’t know where to put. Amongst the cardboard boxes of wines stacked there were also a myriad of useless stuff. It was basically a hoarding room.
We lost my BIL recently and as you can expect, my FIL is still trying to process this. Plus, he’s got health issues. I thought cleaning the room and building a cellar would:
A - expose the mural and bring back happy memories;
B - Allow him to access his wines now that he cannot lift boxes and sort through them;
C - Provide me with 2 days of fun DIY.
You are a good SIL. Well done.
Well done sir
Baby boomer question… To post a new cellar on this thread do you just hit the reply button to the last comment and attach the photo?
That . . . or just click on the pencil looking thing in the lower right of your post, which will allow you to edit your existing post. Then upload your cellar picture.
I hope you played white in that game
One thing I discovered about hanging box-ends on the wall… they will absorb humidity over time and expand, by more than you think. If you have them jammed-together to start with they will start popping off the wall. The best solution probably is to stack them in a corner of the cellar for a month to acclimate first before installation.
Same idea as when installing a hardwood floor. Acclimate to the environment before installing!
Old School. Pieces going back 45 years. The single holders on the right wall were a 2024 addition. The Foillard rack was a 2025 addition.
I LOVE post apocalyptic cellars.
That pic makes me want to investigate!!!
Cheers!
