Portland / Willamette Wine Country recs

I’m not well versed in Oregon wines so when a couple of friends told me about their upcoming visit to the Willamette Valley, I promised to “go to the Berserkers” for recommendations. They’ll only have a day to see the Valley. What say yee Berserkers? MTIA

go to sec or vinopolis, everyone get a nice bottle from say Domaine Droughin, Domaine serene, PGC, Mattello, White Rose, Willakenzie, Eyrie, Evesham wood etc, go back to your room, order some food, and have a great day tasting

Torii Mor and Lange, next to each other, have beautiful views on clear days from high in the Dundee Hills. Some might favor the tasting opportunities in Carlton; others would center their explorations around McMinnville. McMinnville has some nice dining and the Ponzi Wine Bar in Dundee offers other Oregon wines along with those from Ponzi. Depending on how soon they will be in Oregon, it might be helpful to ask for touring guides from Yamhill Valley, etc. This link is a good place to start for more information:

This topic has been covered dozens of times, if you do a search for Oregon Pinot recommendations, you’ll find those threads. You’ll also notice that there are a dozen or so names that come up repeatedly.

If they only have one day, we need more info. What day of the week? Do they have a specific style they want to focus on, or do they want a broad spectrum of the valley? Do they want picturesque views and grand facilities, or more intimate experiences with smaller producers? A person could spend weeks tasting through the Willamette Valley and not find everything, so being able to narrow down the search criteria would be helpful.

This subject has been covered a lot. “Searching” is recommended.

Oregon Wines on Broadway in Portland is a fine place for a bunch of tastes of different OR Pinots. Stroll up Washington St. to Vinopolis and they should be able to provide lots of recommendations, based on the wines you liked at OWOB.

One day is not a lot. If the weather is clear and they don’t have any specific wineries in mind…go for the views, such as DDO or White Rose in the Dundee Hills. I also love the views of Mt. Jeff traveling down to some of the Eola-Amity wineries.

Some of the best winery/vineyard owners and wine-makers are Berserkers. Might be good to reach out to some.

Here are a few threads worth looking at.

With only one day, I would sugest narrowing-in on a specific area of the valley (i.e., North or South) and a wine style preference. With that, it becomes much easier to make targeted recommendations.
