My son is getting married this coming Friday. Small group luncheon afterwards with 11 people, a few of whom will not drink. We are discussing the wine choices and since my son has always been a fan of dragons, we decided to go with a Schrader RBS as one of the choices, since the Schrader logo is Old Sparky, a dragon. I have the 2010, the 2011 and the 2012 Schrader RBS. No Old Sparky. Two other reds will be a 2006 Colgin IX and a 2007 Saxum James Berry (I know my audience).
When Eric got married in 2012, I opened a 2007 Schrader Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon GIII Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard.
Since 2012 is important to me, and since the 2012 vintage is getting good reports, I’d pop of of those.
According to our favorite critic the 2011 is a slightly lighter wine with good early drinking potential. He didn’t rate it as high as either of the other years but you may not agree with his ratings anyway. I have RBS going back to 2006 but have not popped any of them so I can’t really offer any personal insight to your problem. Sorry.
(I voted 2011 since it may not have as long of a drinking window)
Congrats!
My vote is 2011 and I want to echo D Callahan that 2011 is better for early drinking. I popped 2012 rbs not long ago and decanted for 8 hrs, and it was still too young.
kudos on the nuptials. maybe more for a future reference, your son may be a fan of harbison wines as harbison features a dragon as their logo on the bottle.
have fun at the wedding.
