Poll: What is your favorite Red Burgundy Vintage 2000->2009

John, I just got your email… I’m darn excited about 2010

Few have a chance to taste 2010 yet. Should we vote without tasting ?

You’ll have to wait 10 years for the next decade poll!!

I got your email too. Sounds like a vintage for the ages.

Ah, good clarification, thanks. I have some 05 Cras VV, as it happens, and see some well-priced Teurons in the vicinity. But the posted notes I’m reading on these two wines make more sense if the latter’s vv juice is going into the Tante Berthe.

The TB doesn’t seem to get much love, despite Germain’s efforts to make it a prestige cuvee, and it is expensive, as you point out.

Apropos waiting for the 05s to mature, I’d assume Beaunes would come 'round earlier than Nuits, as is usually so.

What is happening Chez Germain after Benoit’s tragic suicide?

Last night I wad reading Meadows retrospective of the 71 vintage. Funny thing is he alludes to the perception of the wine and it reminds me of 09.

Ian - I normally only buy mutiple bs of Les Cras v.v.in good vintage, such as 2001, 2002 and 2005. In vintage 2006 I only bought 2, tried them and that is. I much perfer to shop around 1ieme crus wines in Gervey ( not in Vosne or Chambolle due to prices).

01 Les Cras v.v. is drinking beautiful now. 02 and 05 needs 2 to 5 more years respectively and of course, depend on one’s preference too.

Don’t touch T-Berthe from 05. If one likes massive young red Burg…06 T-Berthe could still be enjoyable. I was told that Germain crafted T-Berthe similar to the style of Dugat-Py ( as they had the same importer in Quebec, Canada for many years ). T-Berthe is a monster of a wine. eff Leve most probably will like the wine more as it is more Bordeaux than Burgundy from Beaune. That being said…all my Chinese friends who drink XO at dinner love it.

Tom…I will check with the importer of Germain’s wines when I will go to his house to pick up my allocation of Lafon 08 in Jan/Feb 2012.

Burgundy - where all wines are above average
