Nothing like a visit from the UPS driver on a Thursday afternoon to put a smile on your face
This is my first time trying a Chardonnay from Kelley, in this case her 2019 Durant Vineyard Lark Block.
Very light-bodied for a Chardonnay - while it doesn’t taste like one, it is more characteristic of a Muscadet in terms of palate presence/weight than a Chardonnay. But don’t take that comment as a negative, because the wine itself is delicious. One of those wines that goes down dangerously easy, which might explain why I am already looking at an empty glass while still typing this TN .
Not that you don’t have enough other Chardonnay to crack open! Thanks for the note and glad it hit the spot. Not sure I’ve ever tasted her Chards. Pretty sure they weren’t on the docket during the Scott Paul days.
It’ll be interesting to see how this matures if you can ever find it again in your cellar.
Don’t diss Muscadet! I’ve fooled quite a few blind tasters that Pepiere Clisson was a bright Chard. Certain Muscadet bottlings gain considerable depth and interest with age.
Thanks for the note Bob - I really enjoyed the 18 version of this bottle which put on a lot of weight and complexities over the last 12 mos or so. I have some 19 SoB just delivered to my wine locker and a tasting set for 12-4 with Dustin. I am picking up some of that Vermouth for sure along with the 19 Coury Clone and likely this Chard.
