Pick my (mediocre) wine

Headed to a steakhouse with a pretty poor list. Narrowed it down a bit. Anyone care to share input on any of the following wines:

2009 Napanook
2008 BV Tapestyry
2007 Folie a Deux, Lewelling Vineyard
2006 heitz Napa
2009 Ladera
2009 BV Rutherford Cab
2009 Ridge Geyserville (prob the best of the bunch but not sure not wine types will dig this and not sure how drinkable 2009 will be at this point)

All pretty close on price so that’s not an issue. Thanks in advance

Ridge or Heitz.

The Geyserville of course. ‘Not wine types’ love Zinfandel and ‘wine Types’ love Ridge.

Obviously Geyserville. Or BYO?

With steak the Ladera or Napanook

Can’t bring your own? Based on that list I would have…jack and coke.

If they have a corkage fee, would you consider bringing our own bottle? If not +1 for Geyserville or Heitz

Company x-mas dinner. I was leaning cab-based because most people will be having steak. No brainer that the Ridge is what I would like to drink.

08 Tapestry is actually pretty good. I’d pick this or the Heitz.

Heitz in that case, Ridge as back up

Tapestry. 2009 isn’t a great year for the Napanook. It’s fine, but not great.

Pick the Ridge. If it’s what you want, why not? Nice notes on CT too. And I think that very generally, Zin goes over better with non-wine drinkers than Cab.

Mediocre? Boy you r spoiled!!!..I think some of those wines r quite nice

Anyone who calls Geyserville “mediocre” gets no help from me!

I’d gladly drink any of those at a company holiday party. Last time we had Sprite, Coke, and some Diet Pepsi…

I think the Ridge Geyserville is pretty solid. I do think that it’s better than mediocre, but I’m not always a fan of Zin based blends, even nice ones from Ridge (which gets das uber love from board members here). If you’re debating the quality of the 2009 Ridge, here’s what Golloni had to say:

The 2009 Geyserville is a gorgeous wine. It shows expressive inner perfume, sweet black cherries, menthol and minerals. This is an understated, exceptionally elegant red endowed with considerable finesse and fabulous overall balance. A round, sensual finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. In 2009 the blend is 74% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mourvedre. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029. 94 PTS

I suggest that you memorize these percentages and then “guess” them after a vigorous swish as a parlor trick.

Thanks for the help guys. For the record I wasn’t necessarily saying any of those wines were mediocre, but that I thought the list was pretty weak especially from a place touting 350 selections. I went with the Ridge and it was excellent. Galloni’s note is spot on, and its actually drinking really well considering its an 09. I think this is even better than the 07 which i really enjoyed.
