Hello everyone. I have a friend who recently inherited some wine. Mostly modest bottles, however there is a 1972 Petrus and a 1975 Mouton.
He is not a huge wine guy so asked me the best way to sell these bottles.
The wines have been in a private cellar so there is no provenance as such. However the storage seems good, labels in decent condition considering age.
He is based in Europe. Are there any recommendations for him to monetise these bottles? My instinct is auction is the best route but not sure where. Any ideas/help appreciated.

What country is he based in? He could sell it at auction depending on location.
Hi Tim thanks for the reply. Belgium, although the bottle could easily get to London for example of it is beneficial… are there any auctions you’d recommend that would take single bottle allocations?
See if Sylvie’s Wine Auction will take it.

I’m in US so have never used but I understand individuals in EU can use Catawiki to sell items online.

There are auction houses in Belgium that might take them.
Try one of these:
Hôtel de Ventes Horta
Mont de Piété
Vin.auction
Millon Benelux
Bonhams Brussels

Or, in The Netherlands: https://www.winefields.com/ is a good one that I buy from regularly (including, coincedentally, a 1975 Mouton!)

Did you drink it yet and if so how was it? Just wondering if its worth him holding onto that one for a special occasion.
Don’t get your hopes uo about selling it. It’s not a great wine. I am a 72 birthyear, so have a good deal of experience with the vintage. I honestly think the time you’d spend getting it to auction is worth more than the bottle. Open it and have some fun.
I have to disagree. Wine-searcher has it going for well above $1k. It may not be a great wine, but it has a significant resale value. Sell it, and use half the money to buy a fantastic bottle of something.
To each his own. A $1k sale price is less than that to the seller, especially if only selling a bottle or two. Would not be worth my time.
