Petaluma? My son needs a business trip diversion

My son is travelling to Petaluma on business in two weeks and he asked me if I had any good ideas for things to do. Looking for suggestions. He had been to MacDonald and drank with Graeme, so the bar is not low. I was going to suggest that he go to that hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that Mike Officer recommended in Santa Rosa, but I think that it was wiped out in the fire. Any good suggestions for food or winery stops?

Spend the time in SF. See Alcatraz (a great tour).

Take the Larkspur Ferry to the SMART train to Petaluma (or Uber) - Ferry is beautiful views

Drive from Santa Rosa to Calistoga the back way and see the Petrified forest. Plenty of winery options there (Montelena is pretty).

If driving, stop at Muir Woods to see the redwoods (will take time to get there).

wine:

Black Kite Cellars (close to Freestone, about 30 min from Petaluma)
Joseph Swan Vineyards (another 20 min north-ish from Black Kite)

dining:

Street Socal - small farm to table
Table Culture Provisions - upscale w/ tasting menu
Sake 107 - sushi
Brixx - casual: pizza + good vibes

What’s the back way? Isn’t Calistoga Rd the only reasonable way to get there?

Driving from Santa Rosa to Calistoga is the back way to get there rather than driving up Napa Valley.

bee there, dine that.

My Jazz Big Band plays every Wednesday (7-9:30pm) at The Big Easy in downtown Petaluma. Great beers on tap. Not so good wine on tap. Decent burgers from the Speakeasy Restaurant next door.

Cheers,
