Perrotti-Brown to launch her own publication

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. What I meant was that if your subscription renewed in February 2025, like mine did, you can say goodbye to the money you just spent on renewal because the new guy only seems to be doing Bordeaux, and there is no one else to pick up LBJ’s reviews. And, oh by the way, I’ve never heard of him. Doesn’t mean he isn’t a nice guy, or even qualified, but I’ve not heard of him.

CK is very well known and has been around a long time FWIW.

People give LPB a hard time for “black forest cake,” but since you mention LBJ’s reviews, I find it amusing that he describes so many wines as “like riding a wire fence.”

LBJ only drinks decrepit wines.

I can’t say I’m surprised at the development. Her production had dropped considerably in the last couple of months. I had wondered what was up. Now I know.

Hi Jeff,

I think it was simply time for a change up and new adventures and challenges. As people on this board know I have always been a very vocal defender of Lisa and her professionalism and will keep that up in the future. She is a work horse sans pareil and gives every single wine in the glass her full attention and judges it fairly. To see her in action is poetry in motion in fact. It always leaves me wondering how she does it. I believe her new site will offer a personal and unique experience and will be a success.

At the same time I have long been a great fan of Chris and his incredible commitment in producing the amount of material he does while simultaneously holding down a high demanding 44h week as a full time doctor. I love his writing style and think it will add absolute intrinsic value to TWI.

Starting next month subscribers will have access not only to the 12000+ tasting note data base and copious articles on TWI but also to an archive of more than 1000 profiles and 30000 tasting notes on The Winedoctor. It is quite an expansion.

TWI will also be presenting new reviewers for California, Washington and Oregon, Rhone, Champagne and Italy in the near future.

My belief is that Chris is perfectly suited for bringing TWI to the next level.

Cheers

And now for something completely different (for those old enough to get the reference…) here’s some asparagues I just harvested in the garden

No Germany  It is only the most exciting wine region in the world.

For people that subscribed to both, is a refund coming?

Once we have the two subscription lists synced up we will reach out with extended subscriptions.

Any refunds for folks whose subscription recently renewed and are not interested in continuing with your new reviewer?

Hi Barry,

That’s not something we’re doing. It’s publication and reviewers come and go. I think people will be surprised b y the ramped up coverage that is coming.

Oh boy
Time to get some popcorn out for this thread

Really. When you have a single reviewer (posited as a co-owner/founder) who leaves, and you replace that reviewer with another individual who is relatively unknown, and who by your own admission has (had?) a different full time job as a physician and again, by the publication’s own statement, will only be reviewing Bordeaux, I think you owe people refunds, notwithstanding your promises of great things to come. You sold X and are delivering Y.

Please don’t pretend this is something akin to a 10 person shop swapping out their Rioja reviewer.

This is a mistake, and very short-sighted Johan

+1 on shortsighted

We will cover the same regions as before and also with greater frequency. We will deliver more and better content than ever before.

This all happened in a very, very short space of time. In Swedish we have the saying “caught in the bed” and that applies aptly. We would have liked a smoother and longer transition for sure.

Is Kissack the Loire Wine guy?

Yes, he does Bordeaux as well.

I’ve always thought of Dr Kissack as a Bordeaux expert.

Loire then Bordeaux. For Loire, he’s as good as they get. Very reliable on Bordeaux as well. Seems to have a more universal palate. Seems like a very nice guy as well.
