Who We Are

We are Jeff and John Perlegos, brothers & second-generation winegrowers. Along with our families, we’ve been farming wine grapes in the Lodi area for our entire lives. Our parents left Greece for America to chase the American Dream. We farm about 80 acres of wine grapes, primarily old vine Stampede Zinfandel, Merlot, and Assyrtiko—yes, you read that right, Assyrtiko! – and we partner with other like-minded farmers for some other cool stuff.

TLDR Wines and Scores

Our deals are killer.

2023 Sparkling Assyrtiko 12% abv, brut nature: The 1st Sparkling Assyrtiko from the U.S. Minerally, citrus peel and light toasty notes. 100cs. Orders with this item will ship when this wine is released in March

2024 Assyrtiko - Thera Block 13.9% abv, (2023 93pts WE): The Thera Block of Assyrtiko is located 25 miles northeast of Lodi in the village of Clements. Assyrtiko’s birthplace is the Mediterranean island jewel of Santorini, officially called Thera. The grape is the current face of Greek wine and for good reason - it’s spectacular, intense and stands out in a crowd. There is very little of the grape planted in the new world. As sons of Greek immigrants we are especially proud to be amongst the first to grow & produce this wine in California. We believe there is no better white grape suited to the Mediterranean climate here in California, and especially Lodi, than Assyrtiko. We whole cluster pressed the grapes & fermented the juice in neutral french oak barrels and stainless steel using native yeast. It was bottled after 7 months of aging. It is bursting with aromas & intense flavors of preserved lime, citrus, stone fruit & minerality wrapped around a juicy, voluptuous finish. 6 barrels produced. 6 barrels.

2023 Cinsault 13.1% abv,
Lovingly farmed by the Sprague Family on gravelly loam in the hilly terrain of far-eastern Lodi. The grapes were fermented 100% whole cluster using native yeasts. The 2020-2022 were fan favorites in our previous releases and we feel the 2023 version will be no different. Floral with ripe strawberries, blackberries & spice. 6 barrels.

2022 Nero d’Avola - Fernow Ranch, 12.9% abv, (2021 93pts WE)
Nero d’Avola is one of the most important red varieties of southern Italy & Sicily. We are taking the road less traveled and seeking out grapes that thrive in warm Mediterranean climates. Lodi is a natural fit for Nero d’Avola with its sandy soils, warm days but breezy, cool nights. All of this combined with the impeccably thoughtful farming of the fruit were exactly what we were hoping to find. The no-till vineyard is meticulously farmed by the Des Voignes & Hartwick families. The grapes were destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and raised in neutral oak for 16 months. Darkly floral with a medley of herbs, black cherries and licorice on the nose. Delicate on the palate but still offers plenty of structure for long aging to go along with flavors of crushed raspberries, blackberries and notes of sweet spice. 2 1/2 barrels

2023 Zinfandel - Stampede Vineyard 14.1% abv, (2020 94pts WE)
The Stampede Vineyard is farmed by our family & originally planted on its own roots in the 1920’s. It is located 25 miles northeast of Lodi in the village of Clements where the valley gives way to the rolling foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. It sits adjacent to the Clements Buckaroos Rodeo Grounds where the country’s largest amateur rodeo, The Clements Stampede, takes place each Fall. The vineyard is a field blend, mixed variety compilation of 10 varieties: 85% Zinfandel while Mission, Grenache, Alicante Bouschet, Carignane, Syrah, Petit Sirah, Mourvedre, Cinsaut & Flame Tokay comprise the remaining. The grapes were either destemmed (80%) or fermented whole cluster (20%) using native yeasts & minimally handled until bottling after 11 months in neutral barrels.2023, 2020 6 barrels, 2021 3 barrels

2022 Duetto, 12.9% abv (50/50 Nero d’Avola/Zinfandel): Duetto - Two voices coming together to perform as one harmonized unit. Our Duetto Red Wine plays homage to the elegant Cerasuolo wines of Sicily. In our California version we blend equal parts Nero d’Avola from the Fernow Ranch with Zinfandel from our family’s field-blend Stampede Vineyard. The grapes were destemmed, fermented separately with native yeasts and raised in neutral oak for 16 months before being combined for bottling. 6 barrels produced. Cherries, berries, flowers & wild herbs on the nose & palate. 6 barrels.

2022 Red Wine, 13.5% abv, 92pts WE (Merlot, Cinsaut, Carignane): A wine inspired by the legendary Chateau Musar of Lebanon. A blend of 50% Merlot, 25% Cinsaut & 25% Carignane fermented using native yeasts, half of which were whole-cluster. The Merlot is farmed by our family and is located in the Clements Hills AVA of Lodi, adjacent to our Stampede Vineyard. The Cinsaut is sourced about a 1/2 half mile away on gravelly soil on a rolling hillside farmed by the Sprague Family. The Carignane is grown on the west side of the city of Lodi in the 1920’s era Mule Plane Vineyard. The grapes are minimally handled until bottling after 11 months in neutral barrels. 4 barrels.

2023 Carignane - Mule Plane Vineyard 13.1% abv
Planted on its own roots in the 1920’s in Lodi’s sandy soils, this historic 5ac vineyard has been cared for by the Shinn family since its planting. It earned its name as the land was originally leveled by mule & plow. 100% Carignane fermented whole-cluster using native yeasts. Minimally handled until bottling after 16 months in neutral barrels.

Don’t sleep on the Red Wine blend, that one punches way above its weight.

Thank you Scott. The Duetto is our play on the amazing Cerasuolo di Vittoria. Since there’s no Frappato in California (1ac ffonly) we substituted Zinfandel picked a bit earlier from our 100yo Stampede Vineyard.

Thank you Lisa. It looks like you live in an area of amazing wine choices so thank you for supporting wines from Lodi. I’ll Whether they are wines sourced from grapes that we grow or from our friends they’re all grown with great care and intention. Cheers!

We are grateful Dave . We would love to know your thoughts after you have had a chance to drink through them.

Hello folks we are adding a new 6-pack for the final day of VinDependence Days which is special for us as its from our pride & joy vineyard: THE STAMPEDE 6-Pack. This is Zinfandel for Pinot Noir lovers - structured but svelte and elegant on the palate, more red fruited raised in neutral French Oak. Not big & jammy

It features 6 wines from our 100 year old Zinfandel Field Blend - Stampede Vineyard. Planted in the 1920’s and ownrooted its head pruned and has interplantings of 9 other varieties which make up about 10-15% of the mix: Mission, Grenache, Carignane, Alicante Bouschet & others. Hello everyone. I wanted to pass along a short shipping update. We also sent an email out yesterday but in case you didnt see it we are updating here as well. It looks like the weather is finally cooling off enough across most all of the country enough to ship some wine over the next couple of weeks. We will likely start preparing the wines next week and to start shipping then through the following week which is the week of Oct 6. I know there could be some travel coming up for some people so please reply to the email sent, or email info@perlegoswine.com or message me on WB here to let me know you would like to hold off for now. Otherwise I’ll assume we are good to go. Thank you all again for the support - it’s been an amazing year for us in this community.
