I attended our friends’ annual crab boil. Dungeness crab and spot prawns which they caught. I brought three magnums that paired perfectly.

From a magnum. I guessed correctly that the lively pure fruit and acidity of the vintage would pair well with the fare (mostly spicy crustacean). This was beautiful; aromatic, elegant, delicious. The bottle was quickly emptied. -
2014 Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie Vieilles Vignes Clos des Briords - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine sur lie (9/24/2023)
I finally found the proper venue to open this magnum! I love this vintage of Briords. Perfect with the crab boil, as one would expect. Nice mineral and saline, but a bit more fruit than typcial muscadet. Lemon peel and even some white orchard fruit. -
2014 Jose Dhondt Champagne Grand Cru Mes Vieilles Vignes Blanc de Blancs - France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru (9/24/2023)
My second magnum in a short time. It's a beautiful old vine BdB that cost less in magnum than most similar quality 750's.
A dense BdB, dominated by yellow apple, brioche, white flowers. Perfect bead, some autolytic notes. Luscious mouthfeel. Another crowd pleaser.
