Penne Alla Vodka with Spicy Crab and Barolo

Last night’s dinner was Penne Rigate with Crab, seasoned with SI Spicy Seafood Seasoning, onion powder, lemon zest, and granulated garlic, in Rao’s Vodka Sauce. It matched well with another 1993 Corino Barolo ‘Vigna Giachini’ - a bit more open than the last; good licorice and cherry fruit; adequate acidity; some dusty tannins when consumed by itself, not with the pasta; and a medium long rich finish.

Then for dessert we had a 2001 Ridge Zinfandel ‘Lytton Springs’ (76% Zin, 17% petite Sirah, 7% Carignane) from Dry Creek Valley - full-bodied cherry-berry fruit, adequate acidity, resolved tannins, with a medium long fruity finish; with cheeses - Brie, Chaumes, Affinois Goat Brie, & St. André, with TJ’s Jumbo Raisin Medley and WF Deluxe Mixed Nuts. A nice finisher to a good meal.
