I have never been a fan of Pinot Noir in the 25+ years of my increasing wine consumption. Napa/Sonoma/Paso Roble Cabs, Washington Cabs, Sonoma Zinfandels, Syrah, Petite Syrah, Bordeauxs, even found some Texas Tempranillo and Montepuliciano that I enjoy.
However I have rarely had a Pinot Not that I like. Maybe never. I feel like they come off thin, maybe too acidic and don’t enjoy the finish. Not what I would consider balanced. To be fair it may have primarily been the price point of what I was drinking. But not always. Unfortunately, whatever I had never left enough of an impression for me to even try to remember what it was. It just reinforced that I wasn’t a pinot person.
As of a few months ago, I have had a couple of occasions to order and enjoy Patz & Hall Pinot Noirs at dinner. And I very much liked them both times. Pretty sure they were not the same offering but not 100% sure what they were. I wasn’t familiar with Patz & Hall and didn’t realize they had so much variety.
Most likely one of them was the Sonoma Pinot Noir and probably the other was Hyde or Gap’s Crown.
Anyway, this is a long way of asking:
- Would most people that like Pinot Noir, also like Patz & Hall.
- Is it representative of a high quality pinot noir?
- Or are they more of Napa Cab person’s Pinot?
I tend to like fruit forward wine, but my palette has evolved some.
-
If I like the Patz & Hall style or there other producers I would probably enjoy as well?
-
Is this style of pinot noir significantly different than something comparable from Willamette Valley or Burgundy?
I appreciate your insight.
