Patty Green Whiskey

Any tasting notes or opinions??

Not widely available so limited actual tastings. Be the 1st on your block to try it and let us know

Had the Francin Barley several times and it’s fantastic. A sort of love child of ultra high end Armagnac and Whisky. I tried to get another two bottles and it completely sold out in the Chicagoland area, so very pleased to see Jim and team are able to ship now.

From their website seems to be pretty available.

Yes, now widely available. Very recent happening. Prior to that , very limited to non existent distribution.

Breaking Bourbon, the site I generally trust the most for bourbon reviews, did a review on it.

TLDR from the article:

  • super backstory on how the project came together
  • very unique approach, given 20% brandy
  • astronomically overpriced at $200

Ha!

  1. Agree
  2. Agree
  3. Disagree. I’ve written tasting notes and vintage notes for 3 decades. I’m pretty good at explaining what our wines are like without getting into critic level specifics about things. That being said, I have no idea how to talk about what the PK Whiksey tastes like. Nothing tastes like it. It’s utterly unique. It’s insanely concentrated. It’s stupidly limited at 37 cases of production. I’ll put it up against anything. Anything.

Definitely looks cool. I think the uniqueness is the challenge, at least at that price point. You’ve got a brand new entry with a 2.5 yr age statement landing in the $200 Michters 10 pricing level, which is challenging for straight bourbon fans.

Definitely hope to try it some day.

Yep. I get it. We’re not trying to replace bourbon. Obviously. And for people who are devoted to bourbon we likely won’t move their needle out of principle. I will say that I’d put it up against anything. So, one has to choose to believe me or actually try it.

Any thought of putting together a berserker tasting pack?

There is the July Berserker Day thing coming up. The problem is that being in a state where liquor is controlled we cannot give any sort of pricing. We have to report pricing and all sales have to be at that price. Maybe it could be a combo pack with some wine where the wine it at a wicked discount. I’ll have to think about it.

Hi Jim, wasn’t so much looking for discount, but a way to sample the different blends, like a set of 200ml bottles. Some larger houses do that, but it is probably too much trouble for you.

It’s remarkably unique, and I LOVE whiskey - also very much enjoy Armagnac and Cognac, so this combination is interesting to me. I have Multifarious and Purple Karma (purchased from the first batch) and reserve the Purple Karma for only the most special of occasions, like last night when we had a rare (for socal) daytime thunderstorm, good ol’ Midwestern style t-storm. Sounds and smells reminded me of my mom, as we used to sit under the garage overhang and watch thunder storms together. (she passed in 2017) Her favorite drink was a brandy old fashioned sweet with olives (we’re talking Wisconsin, you realize, the state beverage right there) and since there’s no way I’m having one of those, I pulled out the Purple Karma, poured some in my best glass, opened the door to the outside and enjoyed the whiskey in honor of my mom.

It’s high proof, gorgeous deep caramel color, and while I do drink plenty of whiskey, sometimes you want something softer and sweeter but still able to burn the chest hairs off your body, and this fits the bill. It’s insanely well made, you can tell, and wholly unique from anything you’ve ever had, I can assure you. Pricing is high but I’m guessing Jim loses money on every bottle, and I bought it out of respect for what he did, how he used the smoke-damaged 2020 vintage. I have 1/4 of a bottle of Multifarious and 3/4 of the Purple Karma remaining.

Have two bottles of the Francin and two bottles of the Rye heading my way. Can’t wait to try them.
