Paso, Sonoma and Napa Trip Musings

In Paso this weekend and then Sonoma/Napa next week. I brought a couple of cases of wine on the plane, so we’re going to do corkage for most dinners and then we’re going to do some winery tastings.

Highlights will be Beta/Jasud with Ketan and Tidings with Reid, but we’re also doing Williams Selyem and Rochioli and probably Tablas Creek in Paso. Also, many nice meals including French Laundry.

Will update here along the way mostly for my own posterity, but follow along if you are interested.

Just arrived to Paso yesterday. Got in later than expected so grabbed a quick dinner at Sabor & Sázon. Great food and great people - Latino family owned, dad is head chef, kids run the front and they are super nice.

Enjoyed some wines by the glass. Wanted to try some local wines so went with a Viognier and Albariño to start with the caprese salad. Viognier was super taut and electric. Albariño was good, more oak, but lacked soul. With the seafood main courses we got two glasses of a Albariño / Viognier / Sauv Blanc blend which was more balanced than the Viognier, but had the soul the Albariño from earlier was missing.

First fail today at lunch - '17 Drouhin MP was completely poxxed. I thought they switched to DIAM much earlier à la Bouchard?

The '17 Lafon Clos de la Barre this afternoon was quite nice - extremely quaffable, if fairly simple.

'12 Cristal with tapas tonight. It was fine, but not showing quite as well as previous bottles. I’m not sure if it’s going through a phase or this bottle was just missing something (travel shock?? :scream:)

Thanks for the restaurant recommendation. Sounds like the kind of small family owned place I like to patronize.
