So, doing HdR for the first time this year and bringing my wife along in a feeble attempt to try to make a little getaway weekend out of it for us as well. I do realize I’m very late to any reservations and the town is going to be very busy, and I’m also sure we will get roped into a few nightly events as well, but what restaurants would you say are unmissable in the Paso Robles area, should I try to get a reservation?
I’m sure others have Paso covered. I like McPhee’s in Templeton, just a short drive. Hope they’re still open. I have not been since the pandemic.
Il Cortile near the park. One of the best Italian restaurants anywhere.
We haven’t yet found anything unmissable but our regular place to go is The Range in Atascadero - worth the drive to be able to get a reservation and the best food/service combination we have yet found in the area. From our experience it seems to be primarily a spot for locals. In Paso Robles proper we have had a solid meal at La Cosecha and always go to Vic’s Cafe for brunch (old school diner style - somehow never busy). I would also recommend lunch at the AronHill tasting room.
+1
We don’t do a ton of eating out in north county, but my wife and I did meet up with a friend at Les Petites Canailles in Paso last night, and that was quite nice. It’s a small place, so it might be maxed out, with regard to reservations.
I have had good meals at both McPhee’s and the Range (although the Range was a long time ago, and yes, it’s still definitely a locals-type place).
Our most recent trip in November we ate at:
The Alchemist (walk in, no reservations)
McPhee’s (Lunch)
Il Cortile
Thomas Hill Organics (Lunch)
BL Brasserie
AronHill Bistro (Lunch)
I’d go back to any of them. Definitely try for reservations. You might be too late for some. Many places in Paso fill up early these days.
The only one we didn’t get to because it sells out almost instantly in advance is Les Petites Canailles. I’ve been told by more than one person it’s easily the best place in Paso at the moment.
Thanks, all - a few of therm still have reservations. I heard good things about Buona Tavola - anyone been?
I’ll second Les Petites Canailles and The Alchemist

Nothing other than the same…I’ve heard it is good. I’ve passed it several times and street parking is always packed in front of the restaurant. Parking might be an issue? Not certain.

We have been several times (our friends like this place) but I wouldn’t recommend it. Passable typical Italian fare but a very crowded, loud room. Cocktails are poor and the wine list is notably uninteresting for a wine town.
We ate at Alchemist’s Garden for the first time when we were there last month. It was really good. It’s a newer spot. Some unique items on the menu and great cocktails.
Hatch- gastro-pub. We’ve eaten here the last few times we were in Paso. This last time the food came out 3 minutes after we got our drinks. I felt very rushed. The food is always fantastic, though.
Thomas Hill Organics- Always has been a favorite, but we haven’t been in a few years.
Fish Gaucho- We love this place for cocktails. It’s always crowded and everyone seems to really love the food. We’ve never eaten here, though.
Finca- Paso Walk- Casual, Mexican- order at counter. Great place for lunch.
Got a late bar reservation at Les Petites Canailles for tonight. Thanks to all. Might try one of the others for lunch, if there’s time.
