Pascal Doquet Blanc de Blanc Arpege Extra Brut NV - looking for similar

While having lunch at Le Bernardin last week, the sommelier recommended the above champagne for a particular dish. I do not drink a lot of champagne but really liked the above champagne. There is limited availability of this online on the east coast. Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions for champagnes similar to this that I could try out?

The above description is what is written on the restaurant’s wine list. The label also adds “Premier Cru”. Thanks.

Doquet is my newest favorite producer. Just keep buying them so they will continue to be imported. Though I am fearful of someone hip flashing them on Insta and seeing the prices spiral upward.

The similar ‘style’ for Champagne requests is tricky. You will most often just end up with people naming their favorite producers. But also because wines that stand out are unique and are difficult to match up. That’s kind of why we want them.

The Arpege is different because its often not just a base vintage bolstered by reserves but can also be a blend of recent vintages and he lists them as such. The two producers that come to mind to try, though I’m NOT saying they are the same, is Chartogne Taillet and Pierre Gimonnet. CT is more experimental the way Doquet is and Gimonnet nails BdB’s.

Agrapart and Diebolt-Vallois could be solid options, ie two Côte des Blancs producers whose styles I don’t find massively different generally.

I love Doquet’s wines and have loved them for quite a while! My recommendation is to explore his range. The only one i was never very fond of was Horizon.

Drank a lot of Doquet (including with Pascal) when Bobby Kacher used to bring the wines in. A terrific range of bottlings and excellent QPR. The Les Mesnil-sur-Oger – one of his Grand Cru – is really a fine bottling and IIRC is an extremely low dosage/Brut Nature bottling from really old vines that can outshine wines costing multiples in blind tastings. Just fantastic and ages beautifully.
