Oyster Stout!

Locals here seem to be frothing at the bit to try this. A buddy went to the pre-release in Boston and said the reaction was crazy-good and off the charts across the board.

Details are found here. http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/index.cfm?cdid=142531&pid=28516

and sometimes here… http://www.islandcreekoysters.com/

I have not tasted yet and will report once I do.

21st Amendment in SF makes an Oyster Stout as well…I had it back on MLK Day, and it was a very good beer…it does not have any real oyster flavors, though…that being said, I’m not sure a beer tasting like oysters would be that good

So there is more than one brewery doing it? I posted on this one in the stout thread. I liked it !

This actually is brewed with Island Creek Oysters in it and supposedly has a bit of that “brine-y” flavor you get from them. Just picked up a 22 ounce bottle and will try later tonight!

This is a very nice drink.

Typical stout with malt and chocolate flavors. Do not taste the oysters, as in, what is inside the shell. However, I get the chalkiness of the shell itself which is not completely dissimilar to the chalkiness I associate with a Chablis or Sancerre, or even a bottle of my (temporarily on hiatus) avatar, H. Billiot Champagne. I love how this stout is not sweet, but about the driest (sugar-wise) stout I may have ever had, which is very refreshing. It also is a lighter body than I expected - though I thought it would be pretty heavy per a buddy’s comments, and I disagree with that.

If rating dislike / like / love, I’d give it a like+.

I found this to be fairly boring beer. I didn’t detect any “oyster” characteristics. Rating: meh.
