Anyone know if it is currently legal for a liquor store in MA to send wine to an out of state buyer? I k ow it recently became legal to ship into MA, but the bill doesn’t really comment on Liquor Stores sending out.
I received a shipment from MA to CT recently.
I know people who have been doing it for years.
The current law allows shipments from anyone who is in business “in the commonwealth or any other state to manufacture and export wine; and is in the business of manufacturing, bottling or rectifying wine.”
You have to get a license, etc., but if you allow anyone outside of the state to ship in, it would be absurd to prohibit your own citizens from shipping out. Usually discrimination goes the other way around - you “protect” your own citizens and businesses.
And Fed Ex announced that they’ll be shipping to, from, and within the state.
Just a few days ago, tried to order some wines from MA and have them shipped to CO. No dice.
Did you offer to swap the wine for some sumpin sumpin you can get in CO? Might have done the trick
Current law prohibits Massachusetts retailers from shipping to customers in other states. It is ridiculous. Some retailers ship anyway. I haven’t heard of any recent problems with that, but in the past there have been fines and temporary store closures, so most places don’t do it. I don’t care what anyone else does, but we don’t take that chance.
My favorite shop (in MA) follows the law and will not ship. Not a problem for me, but just sayin.
I’ve mentioned the shop enough times.
