Ottolenghi cookbook bargain...

Yotam Ottolenghi is an up and coming chef in London. He’s Israeli and runs a few restaurants. I recently bought two of his cookbooks after a strong recommendation from a friend who is a very good cook. “Plenty” is all vegetarian, but full of highly flavored dishes with interesting combinations of spices and sauces etc. “Jerusalem” is about the cuisine of the city of Jerusalem, which reflects the influence of many nearby middle eastern cultures, notably Persian and Ottoman. That cookbook has meat recipes as well as interesting vegetarian food.

The reason I’m posting about this is that I was going to buy a copy of “Plenty” for a vegetarian friend, and when I went online to Amazon.com I noticed that the Kindle version was $3.50!! Now, I don’t have a Kindle, but if you have an iPad or laptop you can download the Kindle app for free, and link it to your Amazon account, whereupon you have an “improved” Kindle (because regular Kindles are only black and white).

I paid the 3 bucks because I have learned I would rather be cooking in the kitchen with my iPad than with an unwieldy book. It’s also nice that you can search for terms etc.

Highly recommended!

Plenty is one of my go tos for recipes. The smoke paprika/cauliflower frittata is a personal favorite and wonderful/easy to make dish for a group.

Gregg, thanks, if there are any more favorite recipes you might want to mention, I’m just discovering the book now. I made the sweet potato cakes last night and I am planning on making the chickpeas with Swiss Chard this weekend. Plus something involving eggplants!! All of it looks so good.

love the tomato Party recipe in Plenty.
I like the Jerusalem Cookbook better.

Suzanne, discovering both books now – wouldn’t it be nice if the Kindle version of Jerusalem were also available dirt cheap?? Will look at the tomato recipe…

Thanks, Frank. Based on your post I picked up “Plenty” for my ipad kindle, plus another 4 or 5 cookbooks (each less than $5). Some good deals out there.

Tonight I “burned” three little eggplants on the burners of my gas range, and made the lentil dish.

Wow, delicious, and Louise also thinks so. You have these delicious lentils with a dollop of gooey smokey eggplant on top, and some sour cream (I have kashk!) on top of the eggplant. What a lot of flavor!!

Glad you found more bargains Becca, what else did you get for Kindle?

My son and his wife came to visit last night, and I made it for breakfast this morning – knowing that Tom is very fond of smoked mozzarella. Big hit, thanks so much for the suggestion!!
