Best I have had both here and in Tokyo.

Nice gift. Have fun. Report back
They charge $500 for Omakase. Out of my budget, considering there will be family of four coming.
Looking for something <=$200.
Would be great to put the city in the title…
done
I recall at least one thread on this or maybe in the NY dining thread. Did you look there?
I highly recommend the Sushi Legend blog for this. He also keeps a $100-$200 best recommendations page.
https://thesushilegend.com/nyc-sushi-guide-2024/
The focus and preference of the blog is towards traditional edomae sushi, so if your son wants the glitzy gold flakes and blow-torched wagyu with caviar, maybe don’t use this blog (https://thesushilegend.com/chalkboard-omakase-is-a-problem/).
That’s really cool - thank you
I did quick search. I did not find thread dedicated to Omakase but found few mentions in different threads, but they were few years old and things change.
Go across the GWB to Fort Lee to Sushi Aoki. $150 and BYOB. As good or better than most NYC places for half the price. Sushi Kai was also very good but I haven’t been there in a while so I don’t know if it’s changed.
maybe check and see if kanoyama is still an option price wise. i remember the omakase used to be rather affordable.
I haven’t been but it’s on my list of places to try, Sushi Oku. Their omakase is $165++ and they are located in the lower east side.
My son in his 20’s and lives in the East Village and when we visit I am usually paying for the meals with multiple people in tow, so try to keep it modest. We have gone to DomoDomo which I believe is on the LES. It was pretty solid and affordable they do have an Omakase option. https://www.domodomonyc.com/
The omakase meal I had at Rabbit House (LES) a few years ago still ranks as one of the best QPR meals of my life. Definitely check it out
My favorite place for this sadly closed around a year ago. Cagen was great!
Any places similar to that?
I just came across them on pulsd, so plan to try them. $99 pulsd deal for 2
“ Your $99 Omakase Dinner For Two (a $230 Value) Includes:
Rabbit House Restaurant is given a spectacular 4.5 star rating on Yelp from 110+ reviews ”
We ended up going to Omakase 33 in East Village. $90 per person Omakase dinner. 4.9 stars reviews. Very friendly and funny chef. My son had great time.
Thank you all
Yes we had a similar deal when we visited. Unbeatable
Let me know what you think
Haven’t lived in the city in years but my old favorite spot was https://www.sushiyasuda.com/menu/dining_menu.pdf
I know years ago Yasuda moved back to Japan so not sure how the quality is today.
Quality is definitely worse, but it’s still a solid value. If you’re not a huge sushi nerd who’s very particular about things, then it’s one of the better value spots left in NYC. It’s definitely a step up from the chalkboard omakase all over the city.
