Older California and Oregon Pinot

I’m slowly finishing inventorying wine and came across these few loose single bottles and was wondering if anyone thought these would still be good if opened? Obviously only one real way to find out.

2006 Hartley-Ostini Pinot Noir Highliner
2007 Hartley-Ostini Pinot Noir Highliner
2006 Byron Pinot Noir Bien Nacido
2011 Evening Land Pinot Noir Seven Springs La Source

Also:

1966 Louis Martini Zinfandel California Mountain Vineyard. Label and fill are perfect. This seems like a @Rich_Brown sort of wine.

That’s not even crypt level, except for the Martini.

Yeah I wasn’t assuming they’d be totally dead, just not sure how they’d drink, on the Byron no ct notes for past 15 years. I imagine the martini may actually be good, though.

I’d wager on the positive upside for the Martini. The Byron and Hitching Post wines are likely passable but would have been better to most palates awhile back. I am an Oregonian and would have no fear on 15 year old wines from reputable producers. I will say that 2011 as a vintage hasn’t been my favorite, but have not had any older Evening Land wines from that era.

Cheers,
fred

The Evening Land will be totally fine. I have not had the 11 or much of that vintage since I don’t believe it was a strong one, but I had the 10 La Source in the last year and it was very good. I think Oregon Pinot in general will age quite well.

The 66 Mountain Zinfandel is still fresh as of February 2024 when I had it at the winery. Its all tertiary with a pronounced sous bois flavor. Acid is surprisingly lively and the tannins are fully resolved, but there is a rustic and sturdy element to the wine. Is it going to be your wine of the year? No. But its a cool snapshot of history and a fun experience!

Ahhh, that should be a fun one! Haven’t had that zin but a 69 Mountain Pinot and Mountain Barbera were awesome last year!

Just looked and I have a 66 Mountain Cab. Would be fun to pop those together if we ever meet up

Ha ha ha! Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’d drink another one…if you’re paying

I would bring some burgundy you’d actually like

My wife’s best friend actually lives in phx area so we’re there not infrequently, usually when it’s not ungodly hot though, which is not that often.

Oh man, you have to let me know for sure! Even the middle of summer id love to meet up…and would love to try a Burgundy that gets me excited

I assume that your teasing about the 2011 Evening Land. I think that I have 8 or so bottles remaining at the old townhome. If I remember, I’ll grab one this week. I opened a bottle of the 2010 Evening Land Red Queen within the last few months and it was fine. 2011 Cameron Abbey Ridge opened this weekend is a baby…

And I was wrong. 6 of each…

I have had the 2007 and 2008 Kelley Fox Maresh Vineyard vintages in the last month. Both were stellar.

Opened on Wednesday night, recorked and tasted again last night. This is good. The SO preferred the 2011 Evening Land Eola Amity over a 2010 Arterberry Maresh Juliard opened on Saturday night. Although she didn’t do a side by side tasting. I’ll try that tonight. The Evening Land has developed some earthiness, but I don’t see it falling of the cliff. The 2011 Evening Land La Source should be more than fine.
